Okay, I have never done something like this before and I am not even quite sure why I am doing this. I guess I'm just kind of looking for a safe place to express my feelings and hopefully be a able to connect with some people who are feeling similar pressures. The kinds of pressures I am talking about are expectations of society and the people who surround me. I am currently in high school and after a long time of people telling me how to live my life, I've suddenly found myself stopping and asking, why? What on earth is the whole point of spending days at this place where I continue to feel stressed about grades and expectations from my peers and teachers to do well. Do I even enjoy being at school? And if I were to stop school, what would I do with myself? I just wish I could work out what defines me as a person, know what I want to fight for and do my little part in the world, however insignificant it may be, as long as it gives me a sense of self. I just feel like my mind is such a jumbled mess that I can't even tell who I am anymore, I just don't know what my purpose is... And I wish I could find a concrete answer, but I struggle to face the hard truth that I probably never will. I'm sorry, this was probably no help to anyone, but if you feel like you don't know what you're doing with you're life and you feel kinda stagnant, I'm here with you and we can get through this lostness(I don't even know if that's a word) together 🙂

Hi CH,  welcome here. glad you posted.

PASSION!!!  is a word that immediately comes to mind. Some people have a passion be it their career, a hobby, an interest. Those with a passion have a purpose far in excess of those without a passion IMO. They have something to divert a bored mind, a depressed soul, or any other problems they have.

At 16yo (I'm 59) my interest in airplanes saw me eagerly join the air force. My parents and teacher wanted my to go further than year 10. But they arent me. It's my decision and pressure from others is not fair, not justified at all in my view. They think of whats best for you and dont want you to make mistakes but hey, if you make no mistakes you learn nothing.

So yo really need to think out the process. What would I like to do for future work? What am I good at? What would make me excited to do at employment? (Bare in mind that if your work is your hobby you'll never work a day in your life). What if I left school for a year then returned?

What if I underwent some present lifestyle changes? eg, if you got a part time job and remained at school...would extra cash lift your mood up to give you happiness?

So, thats a start. Start thinking. Work out your wants and needs. Bearing in mind you dont want regrets. And remember "you are not in this world to live up to others expectations.....but you dont mind suggestions"

dear CH, well this is a post that is wanting us to give you ideas, no worries, but isn't this the same as what your teachers are giving you, just food for thought.

It's good that you have posted this comment as it's something new for you and a challenge that you haven't done before, just as life is, our future is also a challenge, and what is going to be curious is how many new ventures will you try and concur, bearing in mind that some won't succeed, while others will.

During your life there will be many people who will tell you not to this or that, and some will have wise suggestions or advice, while others will tell you on what their own values are, just like an auntie with all the red lipstick caked on her lips saying to you that you should become a doctor or dentist which is nothing like what you ever want to do.

From your post it sounds as though you're not enjoying school, simply because you don't have any foresight as to what you want to do in the future, given the fact that your marks are appropriate.

We have teachers to teach us that 2 + 2 = 4, because if we aren't taught this then our future is going to be difficult out there in the real world, and then we have our peers who always want to do something which is beyond your capability, so what there are other areas in life that you will benefit more in, and 10 to 1 on this peer is not going to be admitted into this degree anyway.

Although it might not seem to be the case but your post is half answering it, because you aren't being stagnant in your thinking, you are questioning what you are doing and what you may do in the future, and by the way I really like Tony's reply to you.

Would love to get a reply back from you. Geoff.
