Anxiety is ruining my studies

Hi everyone, I'm currently in my second year of uni studying creative arts and I wanted to try and get some advice regarding my anxiety because it's becoming a huge issue in regards to my studies. I have social anxiety (not officially diagnosed) and I hate going to uni because I'm afraid of having to interact with my teachers and have them criticize my artworks. I find that the amount of work I have to do by the end of semester completely overwhelms me every time, and I end up putting it all off until the last few days (or the night before). I end up giving in barely satisfactory work and scraping by with my marks. As I type this I have assessments due in a few days, both which are still incomplete and have components missing from them he to me not getting them done. I hate going back to uni out of class times and avoid it at all costs because I don't want my teaches to be angry at how far behind I am. I have been told by some, during reviews of my ongoing artworks that they feel worried about my final result, and should do more or else I will fail. Still, despite this I do not and hand in incomplete works. I have tried to make myself do things quicker when I get them but I just cannot seem to keep it up. I do not know how to stop my procrastination and it's making me feel depressed , worthless and like I don't deserve to be studying. I want to do better but I don't know how. Any help or advice would be appreciated, thanks.

Hi UniGirl,
Yes getting through university when you're sick seems impossible. Good on you for making it through a whole year already!!
I was the top of my class in school. Then i got depression. I quit school. Went to university for a semester then quit. Several years later and i'm trying university again. So far i have failed my first Semester. Hoping this second semester will be better!
I hope you have better success than me!

Hi there Unigirl
Welcome to Beyond Blue and thank you so much for coming here and providing this post.
One thing really RANG OUT loud to me with your post – or what you said. You said your boyfriend will be angry (or may be angry) with you when he wakes up because you stayed home for no reason. Brrrrrrrrppppp – sound of a negative buzzer or wrong answer.
You DO have a reason, a very strong, a very valid reason – you’re suffering from having massive anxiety issues and issues like this are hell to live with and if you need to be home, then that’s what needs to happen. This is where other people (and yes, even people who are close to us) just don’t get mental health issues, well by and large they don’t. Sometimes we encounter someone who is aware of what it’s all about and that’s a massive relief if we can find someone like that; but yes, otherwise people’s first reactions are to buck up and to stop being lazy. They have no idea what we suffer from and how it cruels our way of life and our thinking and our ability to operate.
You’re in your last year of Uni – hey mega kudos to you for reaching this point – not sure how many years you’ve completed so far, but be it one or four, the thing is you’ve been there and have accomplished this. So HUGE congrats go out to you Unigirl. So now it might not feel it at the moment, but you’re in the “home straight” after completing most of the journey.
Yes, there’ll still be tasks to be completed, assignments, most probably exams, etc, but if I may assume here, this is course that YOU wanted to do, so try to break this year down. Don’t look at the big picture, not yet, if it’s all too consuming for you. Break it down to ‘week by week’ and what you need to do in order to get through, just each week. And do a similar thing for any assignments, etc that you may need to complete. Little goals.
One thing to ask before I send this off, have you sought out professional help with regard to your panic attacks? An appointment with a doctor?
I would love to hear back from you,
Neil
