Why me?

Bikedave
Community Member
Having lived with depression, ptsd and anxiety for the last 5 years just when I thought I had a handle on it life is turned upside down again. I have just come home after 3 months in hospital due to a bike accident. Nearly losing everything that matters to you in one early morning ride can destroy you. For 3 months in hospital I lay on my back watching as my muscle mass diminished, finally with a loss of 13 kg. The question I woke to every day was why me. Well I died on the operating table but came back for a reason and the 58000 followers of my story on Facebook enhanced my belief that there was a reason. I believe that reason is to help others with there demons by sharing my story.

Dear Bike Dave

Hello and welcome to Beyond Blue. Thank you for your story, or rather the brief overview. Giving hope to others is part of the aims of this forum so perhaps you can tell us the whole story. If you tell us what gave you hope and how you managed it could help others to keep trying.

If you move this thread to the Trauma forum or to Depression, depending where you think is the most appropriate, it will be seen by more people.

It sounds like an amazing story and clearly has had a huge impact on you. Can you walk now? I hope so. Yes, helping others and giving the benefit of your experience is , as you say, worthwhile. I will be looking out for what you have to say.

hi Dave, this is such an extraordinary post with the end result being you are still with us and for this to happen is a marvellous achievement, but all the credit goes to the fight you wanted to do for yourself, which you might not know about, but there has to be a 'will to be a way' which you were desperately fighting for and so was all your 58,000 followers.
I know the battle of learning how to walk after 3 months, because 6 weeks for me being in traction was bad enough as all the muscles had not had any exercise to keep them strong.
There are so questions I would love to ask you, but as the post expands they maybe answered, but it's such an inspiring post and the will for you to live even though you were cast so many negatives, but it's so great to have you back with us. Geoff.
