What's my name / avatar mean?

I often wonder what the meaning is behind the usernames and avatars people choose for themselves.

So I am starting this thread to provide a place for everyone to talk about why they chose their username/avatar.

I chose the name SubduedBlues as I was once so very blue, but in time I overcame that feeling of being D'jected and I subdued my blues.

My avatar is an asiginaak (black hawk) which is my spirit totem. Where my Anishinaabe name is Agaaseni Waabishkigwan (Little White Feather), I do not use that symbology as I find that many Aussies & Kiwi's confuse it with the All Blacks football logo. I have an asiginaak totem above the threshold of my home, and other Native American symbolism about the place.

mine, CMF, was originally Can't Move Forward, because I feel I can't. However it has been changed to CMF so it could mean Could Move Forward, Can Move Forward or as Paul (blond guy) calls me Country Music Festival lol.

my avatar reflects how I feel about people in general but also that I appreciate the people on these forums and from BB. All good people.

Hi everyone

I chose MsPurple because I didn't think I could use any of my name (including my first). I identify as female and my favourite colour is purple. I also found the avatar picture on an app called zedge. I was looking for purple wall papers on my phone and found this picture and saved it

I really didnt care a great deal about my 'handle' being 'blondguy' as everything else I picked was unavailable so I just took what came up 🙂

I chose my avatar due to the United States redirecting one of their aircraft carriers and personnel to assist the people in the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake & tsunami. The epicenter was off the coast of Sumatra Indonesia.

The US dispatched their mega ship within 48 hours of the earthquake. The Australian media only reported the US assistance in a tiny article in the back half of the Herald Sun which I found strange.

Otherwise its a colorful and bright avatar that had the best clarity I could find on my PC 🙂

Interesting thread!

Quercus is the botannical name for an oak tree. I love my garden and oak trees are my favourite so it was the first word that came to mind when I needed a name.

My picture is a fox. I love foxes even if they're a pest. Once saw a girl walking a fox on a lead and she let my kids and I have a pat. Such a lovely animal (suppose chickens wouldn't agree though).

Dear All~
Thanks SB for another interesting topic.

The picture of the walrus is from an illustration called Briny Beach, drawn in 1899 by illustrator John Tenniel for Through the Looking-Glass and What Alice Found There.

I chose it for similarities with myself. We both both pretty old, have moustaches and are heavyset (I don't have the same protruding teeth though:)

Also the walrus and I are both a bit limited, the walrus by availability of food, breeding sites and climate. Myself by the restrictions imposed by my mental condition.

Croix was a nickname given to me by other students when I spent a while in Paris.

BTW my favorite tune is (of course) I Am The Walrus by the Beatles.

This name was given to me by a Cherokee Indian friend. Mostly because of my work with working lines German Shepherds, lines in which old instinctive ancestry is carefully preserved. The wolf in them is very much present. Being perceived as being "odd for a human" added to my own feelings of being here but not belonging explain the star bit.

Not to mention that many see me as "howling mad" 🙂

Thanks SubduedBlues for starting the thread, and Quercus for directing me here.

"The Abyss" is where I reside on a regular basis - that deep whirling whirlpool, deep hole, or catastrophic weather event that sits, waiting to swallow me. Even when I am free of the abyss, I feel it lapping at my ankles, forever present, waiting for me to fall again so it can drag me back under.

The picture I change with the mood. The first picture was a hurricane which reflected my inner turmoil. I replaced it as I felt better with calm waters and the hint of a rising sun. A winding path through the trees followed that, a path to uncertainty, peace and tranquillity. Then the abyss caught back up with me, combined with a burning rage - the picture changed to a lightening strike! Right now it is a picture I took on a tropical island, half shadow, half morning sunlight. It matches my fluctuating mood, sometimes in the shadow, sometimes venturing into the pale light. It will no doubt change again...perhaps I need to find something that reflects "4 seasons in a day" which reflects my labile mood!

Well TA, it is good to know that your inner world is a changing landscape, that the dark whirlpool can make way for calmer moods.

Oops...sorry I didn't mention my avatar but I believe a black dog (and one of the most difficult rehab jobs I ever had to do as remedial trainer) is relevant around these forums. Midnight was very recently rehomed to live a useful life as well-loved security dog. So she is also a symbol of hope for a brighter future, regardless of initial difficulties.
