I often wonder what the meaning is behind the usernames and avatars people choose for themselves.
So I am starting this thread to provide a place for everyone to talk about why they chose their username/avatar.
-- -- --
I chose the name SubduedBlues as I was once so very blue, but in time I overcame that feeling of being D'jected and I subdued my blues.
My avatar is an asiginaak (black hawk) which is my spirit totem. Where my Anishinaabe name is Agaaseni Waabishkigwan (Little White Feather), I do not use that symbology as I find that many Aussies & Kiwi's confuse it with the All Blacks football logo. I have an asiginaak totem above the threshold of my home, and other Native American symbolism about the place.

hi everyone, i was going to start a thread about this but its already up and running so ill jsut get this one up and running again 🙂
so first my name startingnew. i chose this name because for such a long time i was oblivious to knowing that what i was feeling and what i was dealing with with 'normal'. being here gace me a chance to share my story, get support, give support, learn so much and essentially start anew.
my avatar has changed many times and iv never been stuck on an avatar. it took me a long while to find this one and it came because people here have adopted the name 'butterfly' for me and so i have embraced that here on the forums and have found this avatar. it cant be seen but its twirling up from the floor and shinging the light and with it brings the hopes of recovery and empowerment through knowledge, support and love.

Well, I am Mathy because I’m a mathematician, it’a a forum name I’ve used elsewhere 🙂
My avatar is my Italian Greyhound, Yanni, @ 18 months old. In my suburb, indigenous kids call my dog, “kangaroo dog” because IGs like to “pogo”, they are very energetic lol. Others call them pixie dogs, because they are small and mischievous.
However, probably like most pets on this forum, she’s one reason I’m still alive 🙂
Great thread, thanks for sharing, cheers M 🙂

Hi Mathy
Yanni is gorgeous and appreciate the background. My dad was a wiz at mathematics and could divide shillings and pence into dollars and cents in his head! I wish!
Your beautiful Italian Greyhound....Yanni even looks cheeky in your avatar 🙂 I have been actively involved in dog rescue and have had a Chow Chow/German Shepard cross since late 2014. He is my best friend and then some...no different to Yanni
You are a part of the Beyond Blue family M and its great to have you on line sharing your life experience too!
My Kind thoughts

Thank you for your reply Paul, I’m really enjoying being a newbie in this community - I find it very refreshing in it’s sense of sharing, caring and inclusivity.
I love that you have a Rescue pooch, it’s a rewarding thing to do, all animals give us something, I believe. My time with rescues ended after the death at 19yo of my last. She was a very loving border collie cross that I rescued at 9 months old, however she had been very badly raised, beaten and god knows what else, the poor thing. She was an anxiety ridden mess that I managed to sort some issues out, but not all. She would break though glass windows if a firework went off etc. Nowadays there is medication to help these poor little ones, but not so then. Since then, I have stuck to purebred, and I’m a lover of SightHounds, so I had whippets, and then downsized to my Italian - given that Vet costs are worked out on the per kilograme basis - and as one faces retirement, one has to consider costs.
I’m trying to imagine a Chow Chow/ Shepherd cross and can only come up with large and lots of interesting coat, possibly double? Do let me know, cheers M 🙂

I'd like to revive this thread, which I have come to following Croix/s link.
I have often been curious about the stories behind the usernames & avatars people have chosen . Sometimes I simply like to know what it is I can't see, being blind, & so sometimes I will ask. I don't want to pry, though. So, I am glad this thread exists.
For people who don't know, my usual avatar is a photo I'd taken of my cat, Mekitty, who died before I had joined BB. I keep her in my life through my memories & feel she is still a part of my life enough so I feel happy & comfortable talking about her.
My username is obviously 'Mekitty' with a couple 'mm's, which I think represents or infers some purring or how much she liked her food.
Occasionally I will temporarily change my avatar, to have a little fun, or to acknowledge a time of year.
I'm writing this at Easter time, but I was too late to put my Easter pic up for people to enjoy.
As it has turned out, another pic has turned up, due to a system upgrade, & it is of my brown onion flower , which I grew from a sprouting brown onion a year/year and a half ago... Bronion, I called it. I very much enjoyed watching what happened with my sprouting brown onion until it had finished flowering . I didn't exxpect how it grew.
Now we have some 'generic' avatars people can choose to use. I can't see much of these pics either. some colour, a little blurry shapes, but that's all. I'd like if people would tell me which of these they have chosen, too & maybe, why.
Hugzies
mmMekitty
