Hi everyone,
My name is Skadi, and I'm a 27yr old female living in Sydney. I have struggled with severe depression, anxiety and Borderline Personality Disorder for as long as I can remember.
Recent life changes have made life incredibly difficult (I lost my job, fell massively into debt, and my ex moved on with a friend of mine). I have a very limited support group, namely just my best friend and my new boyfriend (I have no family in this country), and it has been incredibly hard not only on myself, but them too. Being so deep in debt, I can't afford to see a psychiatrist either, which is something I hope to do to tackle these demons.
I truly, truly hope I can find some answers here, or some way to make the dark days that little bit brighter.
S x

HI S
Sorry to hear your struggles. Welcome to the forums. I was a uni student last year so I was trying to be frugal as I didn't have much money. I went to headspace which was a low cost youth health service. I am looking for another low cost health service as well because psychs are really expensive and I only have a casual job now. Have you asked your GP about a low cost psych or health care service in your local area. I know some people on here have seen therapist through their local council which they said was low cost. Do you have a health care card? Some therapist will bulk bill or give discounts to those with healthcare cards. I think there are also some public psychs which might be something to long into. I know on the this website you can look up services around.
Hope some of this helps. I think it sucks that we have to pay so much to get help. If you have diabetes you can see doctors publically. I wish the government did the same with mental illness. We lose so much money each year because we need sick days off, but maybe if we got more support we could stay well and have less sick days
