Social Isolation - When things close down.

Community Member
Post Hi gang. So glad to have found this forum. I am a former registered nurse who majored in mental health in my post graduate degree. I live alone with my cat Mennischt and have no family and rely on my social activities for socialization. My usual social activities were my source of a social life and community connection. Unfortunately these are all closed down due to the pandemic, so that is my social life gone. I have just come through about three months of social isolation due to fractures in right arm and couldn't drive to my social activities - so this additional isolation is a bit hard to take. I know others are doing it tough right now so I really shouldn't complain. Just glad to know that there are others out there

Hi Independent, my name is Jane. I'm sorry to hear that you are struggling with the current isolation rules. I am too! Even though I'm a shy person at heart, and don't have many friends, I do still like to go out and socialise. The only problem I have, is I need friends to socialise with!!!! This depression thing is quite isolating in itself, you tend to want to keep your distance from people when you are feeling really low ( that has been me on several occasions) however, when you start to feel a little bit more human, you feel like getting out and about. I'm normally quite active, I work full time and have been self isolating on the weekends. I don't have "the virus" however, this isolating situation does make you feel more depressed than you actually are.

Hi Independant, and Janey too. I'm sorry to hear that. I'll be your friend, both of you!

Thank you so much - it has been a bit tough without my usual social groups. I was on the verge of crying last night.

Welcome Janey and Independent,

so glad you started this thread independent. You will find this forum very supportive and friendly.

There is a thread Dear Diary where you can daily write down what has been working and what has been frustrating.

I feel it could be called physical isolation and physical distancing as we can social without being face to face.

ooh quirkywords, great terms - physical isolation and physical distancing

Good reminders too of what we're meant to do!
