Hi everyone I'm new here my name's Chrissie I'm 49 and I live in Melbourne. I'm very young at heart in fact have never felt my age and I've always had younger friends, I never got married or had kids which has made social connections a bit challenging as Ive grown older and unfortunately I have had to disassociate myself with a lot of my lifelong friends due to an addiction issue . Recently Ive started experiencing some menopause symptoms and have been struggling quite badly with depression and anxiety, Im also coming off a very long 25yr cannabis addiction. Im trying very hard to get into Pilates and walking. I often struggle to motivate myself to get out and walk or get to the gym but after I go I feel 100% better, so I know it's helping me. xx

Hello Chrissie, thanks for posting your comment.

Even just a little effort to go to the gym or do pilates is better than none at all because a 25 year addiction is a long time to try and break free from.

Your friends could come back or you might be able to meet new people who are interested in doing exactly the same as what you want to do, it takes time and it certainly takes your strength to be able to completely stop your addiction.

I have to give you credit for making this decision and know it wasn't an easy one, but the people who used weed and you associated with are best to keep away from, their temptation may encourage you in times when you feel you aren't coping.

It may be a good idea to go and see your doctor who may decide that an antidepressant (AD) is suitable.

I hope someone can help with your menopause.

I think you're showing a great deal of courage and certainly strength and please let us know how you are getting on.

Geoff.

Thanks for your reply Geoffrey that was really nice of you. Admittedly I'm struggling at the moment due to my highly stressful job, so I haven't been able to successfully kick my habit yet, I'm leaving my job on the 4th Jan so will give it a good go then !!! As far as friends are concerned at the moment I'm just don't care I'm so tired at the end of the day I just want to watch TV and relax and not have to interact with anyway so the isolation isn't too bad right now. I imagine this will become a bigger issue once I'm clean and have more time on my hands. I hope to make good quality prole, I'd rather have no friends than have a bunch of idiots in my life so I'm prepared to wait until the good people come along, I don't really know who I am or what I like doing anymore, my life is just work eat sleep, there's no energy to even think about pleasure, so come next year I will have some brain space to think about myself 🙂

Hi Christie, hope you’re looking forward to a chilled out weekend after your stressful work week, am sure you deserve it. Fingers crossed for some clear patches in the seasonable Melbourne weather. Many similarities with my background, and stressful job, to easy for me to find ways to relax that really don’t benefit me, you could just about name it, and I’ve been there, unless it’s good for me. Cudos to you for looking bad habits the face and doing what you know you want to do from here. Hope you have a lovely weekend and get your butt into a Pilates class. I love Pilates too but struggle to commit, so I know the feeling. Sounds like you’re on the right path and so keep working on your mojo because you’re going to feel awesome the more times you go, and you know this. I’ve dowloaded the app fabulous to start creating new habits recently, it starts easy with nailing a glass of water when you wake, next week it’s onto health breakfast for me. You sound really similar to me so maybe check it out. I’m ignoring the $$ add ons, But if I manage a healthy brekky before heading off to work I might be tempted, who knows I might get back to Pilates in a few weeks of being fabulous. Take care and be kind to yourself. TheRealMel

Hello Chrissie

Well done to you for posting here and for wanting to kick your cannabis addiction. In my mind, making that decision can often be the hardest part.

Not to make this about me, but I can relate to alot things you said. I'm 45, never married nor had kids. I struggle to make real connections i think because of this ..I've had clinical depression for 10yrs now......and I too have just become 'peri menopausal'! Although I'm relatively new here, this forum has helped me so much. Everyone here is so understanding non-judgemental and have empathy. I hope you will keep posting here Chrissie. In the meantime, hang in there and keep looking after you.

Hope to talk soon.

Lee

Hi Chrissie

Nice to read your post as it can rather daunting to express One's concerns at any given times as we have no idea who we're chatting with.

I can relate very well with you by being..

"Young at Heart"..

the Body tells another story..

Why get Older quicker..

There's not much more that I can add to what Geoff has already suggested in his post to you but I can give you a few ideas about menopause.

Read that you're from the Melbourne area.. 👍

The Jean Haille Foundation Clinic is located in Clayton. Its specializes JUST in Women's Health. All Drs + Specialist are Women from all walks of life, many from various nationalities who can help you. There's also alternative medical support if you so choose.

The Jean Haille Foundation Clinic was originally founded for Women with menopausal issues + now also specializes in other Womens health. Absolutely Awesome!

It's well worth the visit. All are Women Drs who treat you with Respect + Dignity regardless of whatever medical issue or habit you're dealing with. They're not judgemental + they're genuinely interested to help you.

Part of the menopausal symptoms is Anxiety which intensifies when going through this transitional stage of your life.

Don't be too worried about it, it's part of us being women.

There's so much info available from Jean Haille Clinic. If unable to attend personally, they often have seminars in different locations in Victoria which you can either get the info from a good gp or go on line + see your options.
