new and don't know what to do

Hi, I've just joined and I am completely lost. That is I dont know where to post anything. I'm 65 and alone and like things in boxes with labels, so you can see it and than decide what to do from there. Some people have described this as OCD, I will not dispute that but it is a sign of my upbringing. Ynot amp

Hi ynot amp,

Welcome to the forum and the community. This is a good enough place for you to start! I'm not all that good with explaining how to do things on the forum, but am happy to have a "chat" with you.

Would you like to tell us a little more about yourself and what has brought you to the forum? How would you like us to help you?

Do you think you have OCD or do you think you just like things to be in an orderly manner? I personally can't see anything wrong with being orderly unless if become a bit too obsessive.

I am the kind of person who straightens up the magazines in a newsagent, or the greeting cards at the Post Office! Ha. Ha. Some people have commented on how I have the drinking glasses all lined up in the cupboard. Just makes sense to me to have the same type of glass in the same row!

You mentioned your upbringing, did either of your parents like everything to be precise? Sometimes it is just being practical.

Anyway, hope you feel welcome here and manage to find your way around the forum.

Cheers fro now from (Mrs.) Dools

Hello Ynot amp welcome to the forum and thanks for posting your comment.

I am 63 and had OCD for a very long time, however if you like things in boxes with labels so you can decide which one to choose from, may not necessarily mean that you have OCD, unless you do have other actions that are related to OCD.

Tidy housekeepers like to keep everything in order, that could be how they were brought up, but it's when obsession is involved, such as if someone does slightly turn a box a fraction of an inch which means you have to correct it or if you go back every now and then to check on them, then that's OCD.

OCD may happen to anyone in a slight or low way or to the other end of the scale of 'having to excessively' perform these habits/rituals.

Could you let us know whether there are other obsessions you may have?

Hope to hear back from you. Geoff.

Hello ynot amp.

I too welcome you to the Beyond Blue (BB) forums. The others have provided good advice and asked very good questions.

If you like boxes and labels, then you might find it reasonably easy to navigate your way around the BB homepage. The homepage uses labels and boxes too, for instance on the homepage you find 'facts', in this box you'll find information that is labelled - what is mental health, anxiety, depression, suicide prevention, supporting someone etc. You'll find information about OCD under 'types of anxiety'.

I agree with Mrs Dools and Geoff about OCD Just because you like things in boxes and labelled isn't an indicator on it's own for OCD. Let me explain, the organisation I used to work for kept things in boxes and these boxes were labelled. It made exceptional good sense - you can find things quickly and easily.

Kind regards

PamelaR
