Just too sad

Hi,

my husband has depression & has since we got together. We’ve been married 5.5 years. I love him as I have never loved another, he’s the love of my life.

im walking away from the love of my life. He’s told me today that his condition is worse due to me.

I’ve done what I can & yes, I react when he’s nasty. Low blow with me being the ‘cause’ & making him worse. I’m at my wits end & cant do it anymore. And will end up making him worse

Think he will be happier on his own eventually. He’s happy around everyone else, not me.

Thanks for reading. Just needed to get it off my chest.

Sad face,

Firstly, I know someone who has depression and does not want or get help. His wife has told me about it. Because he does not believe he has depression. But they are also retired. And she can live with it. So it is difficult. And in the end the partner has to be willing the get help. Not amount of pushing and prodding helps if they dont want to do it, or makes it worse?

I have also read about the effect it appears to have on you (your post on Sept 23). I wonder if you have considered seeing a counselor yourself? Not necessarily because you need it, but it would show your partner that you making a committment to look after yourself. The person you speak to might be able to give you some ideas as well? Just a thought.

The last two parts relate to my 1st paragraph... And I know that you are tried very hard for so long... Be patient as it is his choice. Going and not believing in it wont help either. The next part I read somewhere, or someone told me - You can only change yourself. With that in mind, perhaps leading by example is a way to prompt him?

Sending peaceful and comforting thoughts,

Tim
