Introducing Myself!

Hi, I'm brand new to this forum. I joined in hopes of gaining confidence and encouragement to seek help with my issues. I'm in my early 40's, living alone, no children, no friends (only acquaintances because I have to) I have a boyfriend overseas who I speak to via Skype whenever I can. I have Social Phobia, Depression, Anxiety, long time hair puller (Trichotillomania), panic attacks, mainly with my Asthma, thinking I can't breath etc...Just to name a few "issues" I have( no-one wants to read someone life story on here)...all of which make for a messed up existence.. So as I said, I'm hoping to read some posts and gain confidence to go see someone about it all. Thanks for reading.

Hello Skipp

Welcome to Beyond Blue. It's good you have found us. That's quite story you have told us and in only a few words. Actually we do like to read someone's life story especially if that person has any problems we can help with or support you. Social phobia, depression and anxiety are fairly common round here. Would you like to read the posts in the Depression or Anxiety forums and perhaps join in the conversations. It's a good way to start. Or perhaps you would like to talk with someone who has or had your hair pulling habit. It's one I haven't heard of before.

Would you like to start a thread about that? Choose which forum you think is appropriate and make a start. I look forward to talking to you.

hi Skipp, I would also like for you to read up on having OCD, because it's caused by anxiety and by having Trichotillomania is a trait of this illness.
It interests me when you say 'only acquaintances because I have to' is this because of work or going to uni, and it also worries me when your b/friend is overseas and is this only temporary.
Your hair pulling can be treated by CBT with a psychologist, I know it's not going to be easy, as I too have OCD, and if you look up OCD from the BB site there are an enormous amount of posts from many people who do have OCD where some people can control it while others still have it, but will provide plenty for you to read about.
