Hi All,
My name is Lici and I'm currently studying psychology and creative writing at uni.
I stumbled across this forum after being diagnosed with GAD and was looking for help due to some confusion. I have struggled with depression since childhood as well as PTSD after a traumatic event in my 20s.
I hope to be able to contribute to this forum and help people as much as I can in the future, it seems like a really great place!
Anyway, that's about it really, I just thought I'd introduce myself with a bit of background. Feel free to say hi when you see me about the forums or to ask any questions. I'm always willing to share my experiences in the hopes of helping.
Thanks for reading 🙂

Hi Tams,
Another tip to make Facebook better is to join groups for hobbies and things you're interested in. I did this with photography and writing groups/pages. Now my Facebook is full of awesome pictures and funny memes about writing etc. I also followed some science and psychology/neuroscience pages and have some interesting articles pop up about current research into depression etc too. It becomes a much more positive place!
Hi Pepper,
Thanks for your kind words 🙂 wanting to become a psychologist was a bit of an accident. I was studying marketing and found I was drawn to the psychology side of it, thought I'd try and study it at uni to see if it held my interest and then it went from there. I never knew there was so many different parts to psychology. It's such an interesting thing to study. I think having experience in mental illness is really going to help. I know there's been many times when I've thought the psychologist had no idea. I'm hoping that the people I help will never have to feel that way!
With photography, I'm very passionate about it. I haven't had a hobby like that for a long time. My profile picture is an example of my bird photography. Then I've taken landscape pictures, waterfall pictures, mushroom pictures, milky way pictures, sunset pictures, the list goes on. There's something special about looking through the viewfinder and really noticing the things around you. I found that with birds, there were places that I had been to many times and never noticed them, yet when I went there specifically for bird photography there were so many around! As humans we miss so much around us because our brains block out what it deems as unimportant.
I hope Grandy reads this again, I realised I misspelt their name twice! How embarrassing! Sorry Grandy!
Anyway I hope everyone has a great day!

Hi startingnew 🙂
Thanks for the compliment, it means a lot hearing that I'm a good writer, I'm always stressing about my writing when it comes to assignments so it really helps hearing that!
Hi quirky!
I actually found the forum through a Google search. I'm glad I found it!
I hope everyone had a great day!
Lici
To answer your questions, I love writing fiction. My favourite assignment pieces have been the horror story I wrote and the sci-fi assignment (my highest grade was for my romance though) I also found it really interesting to write a historical fiction, I wrote a story set in the Flinders Ranges in the 1860s during a really bad drought and part of that was doing research into the time period and place etc. It was really eye opening!
For photography, at the moment I love bird photography (my avatar/ display picture is a photo I took a month or so ago). Coming into the cooler months I'll take some mushroom photography and milky way pictures etc. I try to try out different subjects so I'm always learning new things with my camera.

Hi Lici
wow you have a wide range of style writing! as long as it brings you joy ot doesnt really matter the genre 🙂
heres a site called open2study. they actually offer a free photography skills course- maybe that would be something tht would interest you? it only goes for like 6 weeks or something and its all online through watching videos each with a quiz at the end. a cert of achievement comes with it.
hows your day treating you?

Hi startingnew,
Most of those genre's have been because of study, I want to turn the sci-fi short story into a novel though. It's set in a world where people can talk to animals through an augmentation chip in their brains. It's a dystopian story about a girl and her cat who are being chased by the government. There's still a lot to flesh out in the way of plot but I'll have time to do it one day!
My day is going ok so far. I'm currently in the waiting room of my new GP. I also received my exam timetable yesterday and the thought of exams gets my anxiety going. I hate exams! Hopefully things will go well with the gp and I'll have a more productive day than yesterday!
How's your day going?

Hi Lici
i hope your gp appt goes well for you.
oh that sounds like a rather interesting story- maybe over the yrs youll be able to transofrm it into a novel.
urgh im not a fan of exams either. i thought about studying again, its something i do enjoy but havent had the time or mental capacity to since last yr when i completed a basic course. sure 🙂 take a look when your ready, its always avaliable there so no rush or pressure.
im trying to keep myself balanced with so much happening offline but todays been a rest day- the first in months so has been ok but ive been pretty sick so resting is a must.

Hi startingnew,
My gp appointment went really well. This gp is definitely a keeper! He is really interested in psychology and mental health and has studied it a lot. He also knew one of my lecturers which really made me feel like he knows what he's talking about!
Studying is definitely something that you need the mental capacity for! Especially uni, there's just so much information to take in all at once, then there's having 4 topics at the same time and all the lectures and assignments and exams that go along with them. I honestly get overwhelmed sometimes and constantly question if I can keep going. I'm really stubborn though so I won't let myself give up! Plus I keep thinking about how great it will be to actually become a psychologist and show the people in my past who told me I'd never amount to anything just how wrong they were (even if they'll never actually find out, the thought is enough).
Rest days are super important! I'm glad you're taking one, especially if you've been sick lately! I hope you feel better soon!
