Hello y’all. Fab 40 with PTSD

Hi 👋

I have started to realise recently (prompted by Covid) that I need to put my mental health first. My children are a big motivation for this and the fact I am now single. They rely on me being at my best. Having suffered with PTSD for 20years, I have never sought help or support. I never spoken at length or in full, about the repeated trauma I have experienced. I am now 40, and since ‘life begins at 40’, I thought I should have a go at starting to live my best live because the last 20 have been, at times, tragic.
I am hoping to connect with anyone that might have had similar experiences of tragedy and trauma, as well as those who are further down the road to recovery.

Hello BlueSkittle,

Welcome! It's lovely to meet you here, and I am glad to hear that you are hoping to connect with some more people here to perhaps get some help generally. I am also sad to hear about the PTSD you have lived with for 20 decades - it's a long time to suffer without adequate help.

I personally have not had PTSD, but there are many who have. I find one of the best ways of using these forums is to speak to others on their own posts, and sharing bits of your own story. I imagine there's a lot you've been through which others could also hear and recognise elements from their own experiences. We have a dedicated section here, but there are also other sections on other mental health topics more generally: https://www.beyondblue.org.au/get-support/online-forums/ptsd-trauma

Anyway, I just wanted to pop by and give you a little welcome!

First welcome to the forums blueskittle and second I’m not sure what I have & nor have I been diagnosed with anything yet but I’m on medication and have my second appointment with my psychologist tomorrow (first appointment was on the 9th).
