Hi there,

I'm new here and I hope this gets on to this thread. I am 46 years of age and struggle with anxiety and depression. I'ts been really hard lately, I'm seeking medical help - both a psychiatrist and a psychologist, but I;m having trouble with my medications. I am a mother of a 13 year old and a 10 year old and I have a wonderful supportive partner. any encouragement that I'm not alone would be welcome. I've been experiencing this for the past year and a bit and I've started the GROW program via zoom (I'm a victorian) which has been incredibly helpful to me. there are still some days where I cant stop crying and crying and find it difficult to get up and get moving. thanks for letting me share. "S".

Hi Genx,

Welcome to BeyondBlue online forums where you are completely safe to discuss your story because we offer support with non-judgment approach.

First of all thanks for sharing your story. But there is nothing to be worried about because I can assure you that you have already won half the battle with your anxiety - do you know why? By you posting your story, you have shown me that you have great insight into your problem!! Well done on that. You have all the support and all the resources. Great work!! Why am I saying that? Because I used to greatly suffer from social, generalized, and phobias throughout my childhood and late adolescence. Even worse I would get panic attacks and no insight at all.

So how did I overcome it? I understood only one thing - crystal clear!! Anxiety happens when our internal intelligence is working against us to which we have 100% control over. So basically I was putting the wrong fuel in my body to hide my anxiety because all the junk food gave me comfort and I could not face my anxiety!!! But one day I completely changed my diet to whole food plant-based, started exercising combined with meditation and yoga practices every single and from there, I reversed my anxiety problem!!! Even though I did not attend mental health programs or appointments with mental health clinicians. Now, I can speak in front of 100 or even 1000 of people!! Though I do experience a bit of anxiety but it does not bother me anymore because I am detached from it.

Please tell me more about your situation so I can help you out. I would really like to help!! Because I would really like to inspire people.

Hello Genx,

A warm welcome to the forums..

We are sorry that your struggling so much with your anxiety and depression....

You are doing all the right things to help you on your journey towards wellness...I have heard about the Grow program and have heard it can be very beneficial for anxiety..

I’m wondering if your professionals know about you having trouble with your medication..some times adjustments are needed or a different medication maybe offered..It took me around 5 different meds until my psychiatrist found one that works best for me..Genx....Maybe next time you see your gp or psych you could mention your having trouble..if you already have let them know I’m sorry for mentioning this...

You are not alone Genx...many people in this community I feel can relate to your post and what your struggling with...Having a wonderful supportive partner is so helpful..

I also have days that I can’t stop crying and other days I’m fine..it’s okay to cry ...it’s a release of our pent up emotions... on the days when it’s hard to get moving..be very gentle with yourself, even if you only manage to wash up, or make your bed on those days..That’s okay, because you have done the best you can on that day..

We have a thread on the forums that might help you ..the tthread title is..Self help tips for managing anxiety...on the top of this page is a little search button..if you type the thread title in that it will pop up..feel free to join in the conversation their if you feel up to it...

Kind and warm caring thoughts dear Genx,

Grandy..

Hey S

You're definitely not alone. Today I'm having a cry all day, day, so I totally feel you there. On days like today I come here and have a browse around the forums. It's comforting to have other people sharing the same experience. I also find this thread helpful: https://www.beyondblue.org.au/get-support/online-forums/staying-well/words-of-comfort-encouragement-and-wisdom . Do you find comfort in words?

I've heard of GROW, but have been too chicken to join. Good to hear you're finding it helpful!

Hi and a warm welcome to the online forum . Depression and anxiety affect many and it’s great to see that we are keeping the conversation going. Definitely resonates with days that feels SO hard to get up and get moving. Sometimes, for me, I found those moments can be a bit predictable , sometimes it happens so suddenly, sometimes there’s a slow build up; sometimes those moments affect me for a short while, and there are times that they seem to stick around for much longer... I try to remind myself to notice, acknowledge without judgement , and then connect when I’m ready.

I hope situation in Victoria will continue to improve , stay safe and warm wishes to you. Thank you for sharing your story.
