Hello, I have signed up today to find some support. I have come to the realization that I am depressed, and have been this way for quite a long time. I don’t know why I feel sad, but it’s affected the way I interact with my husband and 2 young children. I have not seen a professional yet - any time I have a bit of clarity, I feel like I can take the depression on by myself. However I’ve been trying to improve myself for a very long time now. I don’t know if I’m ready to seek professional help, but if anyone can relate, I’d like to know what you are doing to climb out of their depression.

hello Jilly, thanks for posting your comment and please let me welcome you to the site.
You won't be able to tackle depression by yourself, simply because there are many issues that you don't want to even think about, these are what you need to talk about with a doctor and then a psychologist, if you feel as though you can overcome it, then tomorrow or the next day it will come back even stronger and that's what is going to lock you in.
How I overcame my depression is because I went to see a psychologist and took medication, the two of these will help you with your depression, you can only figure out half of why you are depressed the other half maybe hidden away, because you are too frightened to even think about them, but a psychologist will help you uncover them but do it slowly.
Can I advise you to book an appointment with your doctor, that's the first step to take. Geoff.

Hi JillyP, welcome
Geoff is spot on with it all. I cant begin to tell you the euphoria of going downhill on the fight against depression. It was a cocktail of GP and psych visits, medications (finding the right one for me and dosage), peer groups and maybe supportive friends.

That is just a taste of the threads we have here to read, maybe devote some time every day and choose one. But we have to accept that professionals in mental health are essential towards our future well being.
