I haven't posted on here before. I think I'm what I recently saw described as a high functioning depressive person, no one knows about my condition except my husband, and yet it cripples me. When I get really bad I re start my meds. I know I should probably not stop them but I'm massively forgetful so once I've forgotten them for a few days and feel ok I usually leave them in the box until the next bout.
I've had depression since I can remember. Although only officially diagnosed 3 years ago. I tried a therapist but she kept talking about my physical health and I just didn't feel I was getting anything out of the sessions.
I'm hoping to use this as a sounding board, depression is a lonely place but even more so when no one knows so you have no shoulder to cry on. Bad day today

Your doctor is the best person to say when you don't to take them any more, and really it's unwise to decide for yourself.
We can still have a relapse while taking them, as it's happened with me a few times, but I know that this will pass and get back to feeling much better.
The reason I know that depression lasts for ever is because I've had OCD for 56 years which is caused mainly by anxiety and this comes under the heading of depression, plus through my life there have been significant times when depression has crippled what ever I was doing.
Go back to your doctor and ask them if they have any other psychologists you could visit who maybe able to help you, and please make it a regular routine to take your medication.
If you feel as though you want to talk to us then please we hope you do, it's a site where there will be many other people who can relate to what you want to say.
We really hope to hear back from you. Geoff. x

I am so glad modern medicine is giving you relief.
Therapy doesn't help for everyone.
Do what's right for your own self and individuality.
All mental health conditions can be extremely lonely things to have.
And don't pressure yourself to disclose to anyone, or jump on the bandwagon for the passionate cause. That's not for everyone. We're all different.
It's no-one's business unless you want it to be.
Your husband will support you.

Hello Sal Blue
Welcome to the forums and good on you posting too!
Depression is a lonely illness to have for sure, its been 20 years for me and have been taking a low dose anti depressant for the period.
The meds arent a total fix as you know....they help us build a platform on which we can heal using various coping mechanisms available. 🙂
Its a pain when we get a therapist that is left of center and off topic. I had to try a couple to find one that had a true interest in mental health. My GP also has a strong interest in mental health who I see regularly for tune ups when I have a big downer happening.
Therapists can work wonders where venting (or having a huge cry) and 'letting go' is concerned. When I used to have acute anxiety approx 30 years ago I saw a mental health worker daily for six months and he gave me my life back...he was a legend.
I do hope you have some joy with finding a therapist with a strong interest in depression.
Your meds are no different to high blood pressure meds or insulin for a diabetic. Depression has some chemical triggers happening too which makes the illness partially physical anyway.
Geoff & Corn Starch have some advice above too 🙂
I hope you have some better days come your way, You deserve a break. I hope you can have a chat with your GP re your meds and the benefits you will reap by taking them regularly.
There are super kind people on the forums that can be here for you Sal Blue. It would be great if you could stick around
My kind thoughts for you
