A quick Hi

Hi, I have a severe physical disability and yet am very independent in environments that are setup for me.
I am coming to terms with the strong possibility that both a sibling and my mum are both narcissistic. I’ve not found a therapist who has been able to see past my disability & see me as just a person who has issues like everyone else. After working on myself for years, I’m at a point where I need answers to some questions that I haven’t found & want some emotional support.

Hello SunshineMar, thanks for posting your comment.

I'm sure you have many questions you need to know the answers to what has happened to you, whether they are suitable or whether you still doubt them only makes you more determined to find out.

I know that people are able to see past your disability because they then see what you want to talk about, but sometimes you have to direct them away from this, you are entitled to do this, because you're paying them for help, not for judgement on your disability.

If this happens to me, I then distract the conversation over to another point and this certainly helps.

If you want to give us a little more information then we can help you so more, and by the way, I've had some brain injury and with my counsellor, we had to concentrate on what needed to be discussed, otherwise, all we would do is go around in circles.

Best wishes.

Geoff.

Hi Geoff, Thank you for your encouraging comment. One of the biggest things that I don't understand ATM is why I get diarrhea on & off. Recently I've found out it could be linked to the abuse that I have been through which was an eye opener for me.

I feel happy within myself overall but at times, mainly when I'm alone my bowels will move & I can't make it to the loo. I try to work out what I'm thinking about but unable to because I'll just be watching tv, working on the computer or something & it'll happen. Wouldn't you think it would happen now while I am thinking about this stuff?

Anyway reading post here has already helped me & I hope that my posts will help other too.

HI Sunshine

Welcome to these forums and the BB family!

I suppose I should say that I used to be disabled as well and was either bed-bound or wheelchair bound at one stage and I still have my mobility scooter if required; so I can relate to you. So no you are not alone!

Diarrhoea - this is just a normal symptom of stress. I've been stressed recently for a range of reasons and I think that it is starting to pass, it is no longer out-of-control like it was when I was uptight. Know what it's like not making it to the loo as I had about a month of accidents there not long ago (I just stayed put not far from the loo and gradually less accidents happened).

There is so much information out there on stress management but I find that the resources here on this forum are as good as anywhere. Firstly check out the link below called LOOKING AFTER YOURSELF. This will lead to further information.

NB: This doesn't mean that you should ignore it medically unless it is associated with your medical issues (if that's the nature of your disability). It could be an early sign of bowel cancer so make sure that your doctor knows about it.

Some people find journal writing helpful and others relaxation and meditation and others exercise and some of us may use them all. But if you focus on Caring for you, and making sure that you have the necessary professional support in place, I find that other things will follow. We are all unique! But remember one thing - do not expect instant results just try different things and after a while once they are habbit you will notice that other things will be better, diarhoea included.

Irene.
