Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) Therapy

Just wondering if anyone has had any success with this therapy. I've been in discussions with my psychiatrist about it as an option for me to think about. I've been suffering from chronic depression for about 15 years. I've tried 6-8 different medications and a range of different psychology therapies. I'm wondering if anyone has tried this therapy and what the effect was, or whether I shouldn't get my hopes up too much. Thanks in advance. Josh.

Dear Josh~

Welcome to the Forum. I think this is the exact question many have asked here, however there have been a few replies. If you use the spyglass above to search for TMS you will get about 80 hits from past posts and if you look through them you will find a few who have had the treatment, though I'm not sure if they are still reading replies as some may have posted well in the past.

Beyond Blue has a pamphlet "What works for depression" which you may find of interest as TMS is mentioned on page 45.

I will stress that erveryone is different, and while one person may report successful results and another the  opposite that is really no indication for others.

You are doing the right thing in discussing this as an option with your psychiatrist. If after those discussions you feel undecided a second opinion from another psychiatrist might help. Second opinions are a valid means of inquiry, do not in any way criticize the original medical professional and will probably be welcomed.

I would like to find out how you get on if you felt like keeping us up to date
