side effects starting new SSRI antidepressant

Community Member
have limited options in antidepressant i can take for severe bipolar depression. How do you get through the days it makes you feel worse with side effects (especially anxiety, insomnia and tiredness) before you hopefully feel better? How do you get through these long days of waiting and desperately hoping it will work?

Hi, welcome

I dont know how long you've been on AD's but they take around 6-8 weeks to start working. You really need to work closely with the administer of your script as we cant advise on medications.

Many of us here including myself have bipolar. There is the following site that has us commenting there, you are welcome to talk as well.

Hello and thanks for posting your comment, as Tony has said he too suffers from bipolar and knows more about this than I do, however starting SSRI varies from person to person and this type of AD is what I take, but try and take it day by day, because tomorrow may be totally different than today and next week may also completely change from this week.

I know the worry is there for you but try and look at the good points it might be doing and hopefully will overshadow these bad points.

Geoff.
