New GP and Mental Health Plan update

Hello, I am unhappy with my current GP practice - none of the GP's that we have seen over the past 5 years are there anymore, including the one that set up my mental health plan. I was seeing a Psychologist and it was not the right fit, and now things have changed in my life therefore its time to update my plan and seek a new Psychologist.
I am also thinking about changing my GP practice. Am wondering how easy that is to do, and would they have access to my plan, or should I just stick with my current practice and get my plan updated.
Thank you.

Hey KB1984,
Thank you for your post. It is great that you are being so proactive in recognising that your current GP and psychologist are no longer working for you and for actively seeking out alternatives.
Something that you are able to do to decrease the stress feeling like you are starting from scratch is to request that your record be shared once you have found a new GP. Your psychologist may even be able to write a referral letter providing some further information, too.
Beyond Blue have some information on how to find a mental health professional, if you were interested: Find a mental health professional
We also have a previous post regarding finding a new GP where our lovely community has provided some great tips: The search for the right GP
We hope this can be helpful for you. We wish you all the best in finding some great new supports 😊
Kind regards
Sophie M

Dear KB1984,
You have every right to change any health professional you don’t feel is working for you.
But do research a little. Some GP practices have different fees for different things. That does include Mental Heath Plans and reviews. And some may charge you to transfer your history to a new practice. Just be educated on any pitfalls that may come your way.
Good luck,
ABC01
