Hi people, I've been on the same medication for about 5 years now. A combination of three different meds, however of late I've been having many many days of suicidal thoughts. I haven't had anything that has changed in my circumstances and can't explain this sudden downturn in my emotions. it scares me because I was doing so well on this mix of medication, having tried different mixes for years. I just want to feel good again and don't know how. this has been the first place I've found where I can discuss my problems having no psychiatrist or psychologist as I live out the bush. hopefully someone can advise me of something.

Hi Mongrel,
I've just gone through the medication swap. I was on "X" for almost four years and it worked fantastic. Then it slowly stopped working, I was getting more depressed then I had ever been before.
The idea of changing medication freaks me out and it was really hard for me to do it again, but after a month of stress and withdrawal symptoms, I'm finally feeling better, in fact I haven't had a suicidal thought in days.
Speak to your doctor, he can always call a psychiatrist and get some information about meds etc if he has reached the end of his knowledge.
Good luck, don't give up on meds, sometimes they stop working, but there are alternatives.

Hi,
I had lots of problems with the medication. I think I probably tried them all ova the years. I would find one that worked for a time but I never found anything that was consistent or where the side affects were worth the benefits.
I think in the nature of mental health there is so much we just don't know. The medications are all experimental. We all react differently too them. They keep coming up with new ones but they never know how it will affect you until you try.
I'm 40. I was first diagnosed with depression at 16, in the last 7 years, since becoming a single mum I started having anxiety and panic attacks. I've done it al ova the years. So many different meds. So many different therapies. Long term it was the therapies that has changed things. Changing behaviours. Having strategies to cope with my thinking. Changing my thinking and gaining control of my thoughts and emotions. I'm constantly seek information. New ways to overcome this thing. Trying to find a way to live in the world.
I'm not on meds. I still have suicidal thoughts that flitter through my head like a speeding car but I'm able to let it go rather than chase it down and get it.
I know gender can play a part too. Age has had a massive affect with me with the good old female hormones. If you are female that could be playing a part in your meds.
