Hi people, I've been on the same medication for about 5 years now. A combination of three different meds, however of late I've been having many many days of suicidal thoughts. I haven't had anything that has changed in my circumstances and can't explain this sudden downturn in my emotions. it scares me because I was doing so well on this mix of medication, having tried different mixes for years. I just want to feel good again and don't know how. this has been the first place I've found where I can discuss my problems having no psychiatrist or psychologist as I live out the bush. hopefully someone can advise me of something.

Hi, After several weeks of examining my own wretchedness with the help of a psychologist I have been given the diagnosis which isn't a diagnosis. I have generalized anxiety but I am high functioning and therefore am not officially diagnosed although I am receiving therapy. I am wondering if it is unusual to receive a non diagnosis. Also if there are repercussions to receiving a diagnosis which I am not aware of. Thanks, Chris.

Hi All, I am currently on my third type of antidepressant, after my doctor and psychologist suggested that I dropped off from 60mg to 30mg than 0mg in two weeks. After two weeks of this new medication and all types of withdrawal symptoms including brain zaps, sweats, nausea and anxiety attacks I have now been told that this new medication isn't working and we may need to try a forth type. Does anyone else feel like a guineapig, and that health professionals don't truly understand depression/anxiety and the correct forms of treatment? Thank you.

I've written a separate post in the 'Depression' forum with a lot more detail and background information. This is just a quick rundown of where I'm at now. I've had severe depression for many many years. It's cost me a serious relationship, my job, uni and my hobbies. I've been through the routine of psychologist, psychiatrist, doctors and meds. Here's a brief rundown of why I want hospitalisation: I've spent the last 2 months in bed. I've left my room maybe once a week to do band rehearsals or play a gig. My health is atrocious. My body aches all over. I haven't brushed my teeth or my hair in days. I shower once a week if I'm really lucky. I'm down to $120 and I have $300 worth of bills. I'm eating very little (once a day, if that). My sleeping pattern is no longer a pattern, more "sleep when I can". I go to sleep depressed, dream about my ex girlfriend and wake up in throws of a major depressive episode. I'm constantly stressing and get bad stomach aches, headaches and IBS. I don't feel I can handle going to the doctor just to go through the same old same old. The idea makes dust gather on my tongue. I need something now. I think I really need to go to hospital and break away from my routine.

I have been on an antidepressant for 11 years, suffering from depression and four years ago starting to have anxiety attacks. Recently I have had another anxiety attack due to husband being away for six months due to work. I am in another state with no family for support and have my two children with me with one with special needs. I am trying to cope and do it all on my own but it's hard. Went to doctors who has slowly after 11 years taking me off of the medication, I too am on an a benzodiazepine tablet for anxiety. But for the last three days I am struggling as I have not taken any antidepressant due to docs request as tomorrow I am starting a new one. I am struggling I am confused, dizzy, light sensitive , don't want to be around anyone, bad tempered and feel sick. Is this normal having these symptoms while changing meds? I am finding it hard to deal with the symptoms please help.

Third appointment today and after only ten days he told me to switch to a new medication due to the nightmares I am currently having on the first new medication he prescribed (- which studies show that 70% of nightmare side effects disappear after the first month). He also told me to stop all my other medication (3 different ones). He did NOT tell me what type of new medication it was, he did NOT tell me to slowly reduce the amount of my other medications (which I already know you do not go cold turkey from any of them). I left there crying, very distressed. Luckily my GP was close by and happy to see me at short notice. I told him what happened and he agreed there was no point in changing medication when I had only been on X for 10 days. He agreed the psychiatrist was not helpful and shouldn't have let me leave distressed. I will be managing my medication with help from my GP from now on. Very glad I trusted my instincts that something wasn't right.

Is there a list somewhere of all the options for treating depression, with a guide to costs? Can someone describe to me something that has worked and how much it cost, how long it took, how you got started? Can you claim it on medicare or get financial assistance? Do you have to see a G.P. or can you see a counsellor/psychologist/life coach/etc. straight away? Can you do skype/google hangout or web-based sessions of counselling?
