ok so i have three questions to ask you...... i am quite embarrassed about them but i dont have anyone to ask outside of here and im not confortable asking my gp about them in person or via a note

1. if your on medications did that play around with your homones abit? in a good way or a bad way? did seem to affect your cycle at all? im on antipsychotics and anti depressents and im wondering what others experiences are...

2. so im 20 and im getting different stories as to when to start getting pap smears. ive been told many dfferent things such as the usualy every 2 years after activity, ive also heard you shoudnt get them until your 21 and then ive heard you should start to get them at 20 whether your active/ been active or never been activive at all? just wondering your experiences around that too please?

3. i cant seem to control acne esp around my cycle, its really annoying, i use clearasil twice a day plus they have intvented clearsil pads that you wipe on and leave on to dry but i still seem to have it, and as i often need massage therapy and chiropractic cares its really annoying and embarrassing. also how do you control your cramps?

Ah...look who I found! ha ha...

Hi hun;

Firstly, these are really great questions so I can't imagine why the 'guys' wouldn't take this one on. Ha! So let's have a girly yak hey.

Sometimes menstrual cycles take a while to settle, and it's not always 28 days either. My sister and I had a 36 day cycle once we were balanced and off the contraceptive pill. We also had 'flow' disruptions and irregularities; the pill helped with this too, but please talk with your GP about that as I can't give advise. Yes, I said the horrid GP word.

Your doctor is the only one who can prescribe or refer any medication. If you're already on the pill, there may be interactions with other medications, so your dr can look this up while you're there. It's a good idea to talk about having a pap test too. I know, the idea of having this done isn't exactly nice, but no-one on here can advise either way. It's unlikely you'd have to, but better to ask.

Your dr will discuss options to help settle your period if the pill isn't desirable. I'm not sure what's out there these days as I haven't had mine since 2013!

I went thru some changes recently and asked the same question you have; do psych drugs affect hormones? It seems emotions/feelings are the culprits. When my AD was increased and the work I'd done on myself was showing results, my metabolism and hormone levels changed due to a lack of adrenaline/cortisol. (From no more anxiety/panic) So the opposite could also be true for increased levels of these chemicals.

All I can suggest in reality, is that you speak with your GP or a gynecologist.

I hope I've helped, or maybe someone else has better knowledge?

Take care SN; best of luck.

Just an addit hun;

A pap test may trigger you in a big way, so best to tell your dr about related trauma's. If you haven't done this, please consider the ramifications. If it's absolutely necessary, there may be a way of using medication intervention to sedate you so you don't know what's happening.

Haha Hi Sara
nope thats why the
title says 'ladies' lol

yes well I dont have
anyone else to talk to literally- my friends are gone too now.
Nothing ever seems to go right now. So this can be our ladies thread
and it can be used by anyone not just me.
Mine first started
when I was 9 but jeezus its so irregular, it was more if the
medications I was on were actually going to do something about it
either worse or good- good would be better.
I can tbring myself
to ask my gp as yet that kinda why I asked on here.

Yes im well aware of
triggers, I dont think its necessary that I get anything done but
since im 20 now Ive heard that at the age of 20 whether youve been
active or not you should be getting tests done either way.

Just wondered if
anyone else had heard that.

Hey fellow girl of flesh and blood! lol

Yes, irregularity is a pain in the bum, or should I say front bum! Ah ha ha ha...

Us women and our red flag days have come a long way since bible times I must say. I read that women who were experiencing periods, were told to go out of the village and sit in a small tent; dig a hole to squat over and stay there till they were done. Um...not quite what I'd like, but then women were like cattle then. This is old, old testament btw.

It's uncomfortable, expensive and sometimes 'touch and go' timing wise if you know what I mean; nature surely can arrive at inopportune times eh? I'm sorry you've had yours since 9, this is early, but my GP tells me girls are younger now than in my day.

So discussing medication effects on menses with your dr is the only way to approach this. I know it's hard; it was for me too starting out. I left home at 17 so it was up to me to bite the bullet and get the words out. My dr was a man, so you can imagine the guts it took.

When I was raped at 21 and the aftermath nearly took my life, I went to my dr in helpless tears and blurted out my predicament. He stood up, came over to me and gently hugged me while I cried. He told me everything was going to be alright and gave me some medication to sleep; I hadn't slept or eaten in 2 weeks.

Dr's are people too. They understand that life dishes out some pretty average stuff. They hear of such horror and pain everyday, yet still manage to have empathy. Trust your dr to approach your woes with respect and caring...please.

Be courageous for you ok?

Haha lol Sara

This is no laughing matter 😉 😉 this is serious buisiness right here haha

Oh no i wouldnt be very happy to justsquat and wait it out! Geez glad times have changed!

Oh yes! It can be unpredictable and ive had it come at some awkward times esp when i was 9 10 11 years old. #awkward lol

When im.not a chicken ill talk to.my gp until then ill just keep on living and pain relief for the week lol

And Sara..... im sorry all that happened to you esp being at a young age AND having a male dr. Your a very strong lady and its very inspiring. Thank you for sharing your stories with me ❤❤❤

Thankyou hun;

Btw...it's nice to catch up in real time eh? I'm off shortly, but wanted to stop by and say 'hi'. Female dr's huh? I'm not sure if you realise this, but they have periods too! Ah ha ha ha...

You're a gem my sweet! Loved reading the above post and laughing with you...so nice.

Let's bow our heads for those poor souls in biblical times who bore the brunt of male dominated rule. In the 'Book of Ruth', (very short one) she curls up at the feet of her 'master' who I assume was her husband, to stop him from getting cold. I always remember this story as it shocked me when I read it. To this day I can't comprehend that mentality; I was a young teen at the time.

Have a great weekend honey; let's rejoice our feminine beauty and cheer for the girls who just wanna have fun! (thanks Cyndi Lauper)

Mwah!
