Has anyone else done DBT?

Hi All

I am new to this site, I came on this site so I can try to understand what I am going through, I figured there must be others out there like me and I would like to hear from them.

The last 9 months have been horrific for me, I have been in and out of hospital with

severe anxiety and depression. You see I lost my soul mate 4 yrs ago after 30 years together. for the first 3 yrs I did ok as I still had my children at home. Then they moved out and I went downhill from there.

Sadly I have

tried to take my life 3 times as I can handle the thoughts and anxiety going through my head.

I have great support from my family but it still feels as though I am disconnected.

I am going through DBT at the moment and wonder if anyone else has done this and if so how did they go?

I look forward to your feedback.

Thankyou

Hi toshy,

I myself have undertaken 6 months of DBT and the following is off my own experience, keep in mind everyone has different problems and outcomes.

At the time and even just after finishing up therapy, I didn't think it had helped at all. It was only a little while later that I realised that while I was still not good at actively (and consciously/knowingly) putting the skills into action when in distress, it had somehow still managed to reduce my harmful behaviours and I learnt to just ride the urges instead of acting upon them. I'd definitely recommend it, however I cannot guarantee it'll be the right thing for you, as I said everyone has different issues requiring different levels and types of support. But in saying that, you won't know unless you try.

Best of luck.
