GP Mental Health Plan -

Community Member
  • I went to my GP to obtain a GP Mental Health Plan to seek support with coping strategies with a therapist
  • I was very upset about what he wrote which accompanied the GP Mental Health Plan.
  • I am changing to a new GP. Can the new GP re-issue the GP Mental Health Plan again to the same therapist if I have not attended any sessions yet?
  • Thanks. Look forward to hearing from you

Hello Angel_Blue, the GP just allows the therapist to lodge the mental health plan by themselves, it's just similar as a referral to a psy, specialist etc, because once your therapist has this letter then it's out of your GP's hand, you can tell the therapist that your new GP is now *****, and it won't affect your treatment.

Just remember to tell your new GP what's happened, but again it won't change your therapy.

Yes, if you haven't attended any sessions with the therapist yet, your new GP can re-issue the GP Mental Health Plan to the same mental health therapist. It's essential to feel comfortable with your GP and the treatment plan. Seeking support from a mental health therapist is crucial for coping strategies. Don't hesitate to discuss your concerns with your new GP so that they can provide appropriate assistance for your mental health journey. Open communication is key to ensuring you receive the support you need.
