ACT Work

RecognisingAnxiety
Community Member

Hi All,

Had my first psych visit and it was reassuring and comfortable. We're planning some ACT work to tackle my anxiety. I read up a little, but would be interested in hearing anyone else's experiences using this method and how it helped.

Thanks.

Hi,

Yes I've had positive experiences with ACT.  It teaches you to react differently to negative thoughts instead of trying to ignore them or change them.

It takes a lot of practicing and I would recommend reading Russ Harris's book The Happiness Trap.  Its great for learning ACT.

Good luck!

Great thanks Jess. I had expected to be lying on a leather couch and unveiling untapped childhood traumas over many sessions, but nothing of the type and psych was very clear about dealing with here and now.

I find the mindfulness aspect very interesting and looking forward to exploring that - I've always been distracted and 'somewhere else' as thoughts creep in - some good and some very bad. I'll hunt around and see if I can get some info on that book.

Hi,I have just bought the book you mentioned.just over6$ from Amazon e books. Am glad you found it helpful, hope I will as well Rosie
