I had an accident a few weeks ago and ended with significant injuries. I have not being back at work since. I have a conference coming up on Friday and was attending with a work colleague. The conference is in regard to a position we both work in. I am ok to go to conference and can use disability provisions to ensure attendance at conference. My colleague is now telling me I can't attend due to my injuries. I feel that my colleague is using my situation to advance themselves. My mind is sound and I see no reason to miss the convention. Of course now, I'm feeling very low, useless, invisible, and perhaps that I am a threat to the colleague. Thoughts, as I'm not feeling great at this point.

Hi, welcome
Sorry to hear about your accident, I hope you get well soon.
I've had 3 short term workcover claims over my 40 working years and each time was treated badly by the compensation system in terms of demands, questions and one on one communication. Also, I have some accurate insight with the system in terms of many years as a compensation investigator.
Therefore before I address your question I'd like to offer my concerns how I found the system itself. Make no mistake the system throughout the country is scarred with some well disguised discrimination. Employers, insurance companies and even colleagues that are aligned with management can be, but not all, tainted with the same brush- resulting in making it harder for the injured party. The reason I'm saying this is to help you be prepared for the immediate future because being injured one would normally think you would be treated at least with the bare minimum of compassion and decency. Not so.
So the bottom line with your question is to take the view that you have a right to be there. It would be a sensible suggestion to engage a workers compensation solicitor to represent you and advise you on these "meetings" and protect yourself. There are many such meetings/doctors appointments whereby they state if you dont attend your claim could be squashed which can be a false comment but people get scared so they attend and in good faith offer information they didnt need to offer and those in attendance use it against you in the future "you claimed on (date).... therefore ...." So my advice is to be very careful and exercise your rights.
Even a phone call about this to a legal representative is "gold" with a future appointment to discuss your situation.
I hope you are ok and find yourself through the minefield. If you feel worse ring lifeline or the number at the bottom of this page. You can post here 24/7/365. I'm here usually daily and other might help to with support.
