Abandonment

Just had someone close to me tell me that they don't want to have anything to do with me. This seems to be a recurring theme - it has happened before, several times. I'm beginning to think that there is something seriously wrong with me. I have bipolar disorder so events like this cause all sorts of conflicting emotions and trigger unhealthy behaviours and thoughts. Because of this I am unable to seek support from most support services because I end up getting sectioned and taken to hospital against my will.
I know there aren't any quick solutions to this issue but maybe someone else has been through a similar experience and can share what solutions they came up with.

Hi, welcome

I'm 70yo, bipolar, full function autism and a history of depression and anxiety.

I now know myself very well as I've learned the hard way how to survive in society and be comfortable.

I have some personal rules-

  • I wont join any clubs or if I do I remain on the outside not get too close to activities.
  • I'm wary of those that are not empathetic towards mental illness.
  • In the early days I learned through therapy where my behaviours were extreme and worked on making them more palatable.
  • I removed all people from my life that appeared to be narcissistic/toxic.
  • I learned to ask questions. By doing that you are showing interest. Otherwise it can be a trap because if we talk only about ourselves people get tired of it.
  • Seek out hobbies and sports and focus your interests in those rather than relying on friendships.
  • Your belief now that something is seriously wrong with you might not be true, it might be that a little guidance is all thats needed but you should be commended for focussing upon yourself for improvement- well done

I hope that helps. Reply anytime
