Hey to anyone reading this.
Last night I had an idea about starting a new thread about exercise especially walking. I am aware that walking is very beneficial for our mental, emotional and physical well being. And by actually doing it....well it can make a huge difference to how we cope with the storms that we face in life.
OK, I am not real good at disciplining myself to walk, and have to really push myself to do it. And sometimes it is even hard to leave this bedroom. Anyway I am not a beginner walker, as I have stuck to sort of a plan before. So I know that it does make me feel somewhat better. But I only stayed on the plan for a couple of months, then gave up.....for whatever reason. So here I am again wanting desperately to not fail this time.
So I guess this thread is for anyone that does walk, anyone that is struggling to walk because of depression or anxiety issues. And anyone else really......
I am unsure of the outcome of all this. But my ideas included: Sharing about things we have found out about exercise especially about walking. Writing down the reasons that one would chose to walk ( like something to help motivate). Being accountable in same way. Sharing about the places where we actually do walk, like the beach, gym, around the block, with the dog, out to the clothesline and back. And any other useful tips that could help others. So here we go......

Well morning to you Kaitoa. It is around 1am here.
Not quite sure what to say about your walk actually. But I am assuming you have a bit of a routine happening there with your Bundy. I suppose he sort of expects going for a walk by now. The dog I had a while ago you just quietly mentioned the "walk" word. And wow he was excited to go..

Hi CheeseSlices, I did reply to you. I think it is held up by the moderators here. I guess you will see it when it arrives, if you are still reading this thread that is.
Well I went for a walk yesterday around 9:30pm with my son. We headed out to the path along the beach again. Ah it was so breezy and refreshing. Love it and hardly anyone else was there. We passed one lone and very fit looking runner. Looking to the right, one could see a few ships out there waiting to go into the port or harbour. Going to bed now. Nite. Glad I walked, extra special going with my son. Double bonus!
Shell xx
PS How you going there Mrs D?

Morning Shelley, Elizabeth, Kaitoa and CheeseSlices.
Well I was up early this morning while its lovely and cool. I have to go to work a little later, but I took the opportunity of having 15 minutes on the exercise bike. Yeah Stationery, I wasnt going anywhere. (-:
Its all I could manage for the day. Wore me out it did. Better than nothing though.
And yes Shelley, I hope to get into the Pilates again. I dont know how I will go with the Yoga side of things though. I am not as flexible as I once was. And they seem to be tied up in knots sometimes with all those Yoga moves. I will just have to give it a go I guess.
Have a good day all.

Good morning Everyone,
I didn't manage to get out for a walk yesterday. I had a few phone calls to make to sort stuff out for an upcoming Centrelink appointment and tried to get access to some mental health care in our region.
I did manage some time in the garden so that was a bit of exercise. Started cleaning out a cupboard as well. I managed to do my stretches so that was a bit of healthy exercise as well.
Hopefully I can drag myself out later for a walk! Have some training to attend for CFS tonight so need to get myself organised. Visiting a friend as well.
Okay no excuses, after lunch I will go for a walk. Wish it was at a beach, will take me over an hour to drive to the beach...
Keep up the good work everyone!
Cheers from Mrs. Dools

Hey Shell and everyone here as well!
That's okay Shell - I don't expect you to reply to all of the posts.
I just like posting here because it keeps me accountable.
There is no one that is accountable for my health and happiness, except me.
I post to keep myself in 'check', as they say.
HFA brain loves routine and order - I just make sure to balance that out as well by doing my best to be as spontaneous as I can.

Bundy and I did our 40min walk.
After posting this I'm going to lift some weights and do a little callisthenics as well.
Then I will enjoy a homemade meal for lunch.
All is well

Shell,
Whilst I was walking today, something popped into my head about 'fasting', that I wanted to share with you, since you asked about it the other day.
We all fast, generally speaking, in that, if your last meal of the day is at 8pm, and you eat breakfast at 8am in the morning, that's an 11 to 12hr 'fast'.
Hence the term 'break-fast', right?
In terms of intermittent fasting or IFAST, it's just conscious-fasting.
Fasting is not starving yourself, just to starve yourself.
I write that because I starved myself for over 10 years, as a person suffering with bulimia.
I have met some people that use 'fasting' as an excuse to starve themselves because they have a lot of these self-limiting beliefs floating about - "I'm not good enough", "I'm ugly and worthless", "I hate my body" etc.
When we starve the body, in the name of health, but really it's because of low self-esteem, or for whatever other reason, we put our life at jeopardy.
But consciously fasting, for someone that had starved himself because he hated himself, really works well for me.
I am healthier and happier.
I have one of those body types that appears to put on weight as soon as I see food, they're called "endomorphic body type".
Some are naturally athletic body types - Mesomorph.
Some are naturally slim and thin body types - Ectomorph.
I have learned to work with my body type, rather than fighting against it.
The good thing about my body type, is that we put on muscle easy as well, which is important for all of us as we age.
IFAST has helped me to take back control of a big part of my physical health.
Being an endomorph means that I already have enough stored energy, as fat-stores, to burn and convert to energy.
I make sure to do this with all the other body-basics that I do daily as well.
Stay well.
Live healthy.
Be happy.
MuchLove&Awesomeness.
Kaitoa.

Morning to you Taurus,
I admire your get up and go on the exercise bike spirit there. Good on you! But you will take it a bit easy won't you, because I know that you can become absolutely exhausted from lack of sleep and other stuff. ( Yeah I read that elsewhere). Hope you don't think I am a fuss pot, I care is all.
I don't know much about yoga either, so I would be interested in knowing how you go if and when you decide to go to that class.

Great Job, Elizabeth!.
You're doing better than me, on that exercise bike.
Cycling is not a sport that I enjoy...at all, not even in the slightest!.
Keep moving forward.

Hi Everyone,
Isn't it wonderful that we can all support each other and ourselves on this site in so many different ways.
Yesterday I didn't manage to go out for a walk. I was sort of exercising in the Opportunity Shop where I am volunteering at present. It is amazing how many times you walk back and forth from the sorting room to placing items in the store.
The day previous to that I did go for a 30 minute walk out in the wind! I was almost leaning into the wind on the way back home. It was exhilarating. I watched the wind blow through the crops, making wave like motions, I pretended I was out on the ocean watching the waves swell.
Today I'm going to be pushing the wheel barrow about in the garden. I might try and encourage myself to go for a walk as well.
All the best with everyone's wellbeing!
Cheers from Mrs. Dools

Hi Mrs Dools,
All the best for you too!.
Including, "Incidental Movement" or IMOVE, i.e. walking around the Op Shop, as being part of your daily exercise plan too, is great!.
If you look up - Incidental Activity/Exercise/Movement - you'll see that much research is going into this, and how important IMOVE is!.
IMOVE is great, especially if you're busy volunteering, or at home pottering about.
It can all be included.
You're doing great Mrs Dools, and I'm sure the folks at the OP Shop love you just like we do!.
