Walking and Exercise

Hey to anyone reading this.

Last night I had an idea about starting a new thread about exercise especially walking. I am aware that walking is very beneficial for our mental, emotional and physical well being. And by actually doing it....well it can make a huge difference to how we cope with the storms that we face in life.

OK, I am not real good at disciplining myself to walk, and have to really push myself to do it. And sometimes it is even hard to leave this bedroom. Anyway I am not a beginner walker, as I have stuck to sort of a plan before. So I know that it does make me feel somewhat better. But I only stayed on the plan for a couple of months, then gave up.....for whatever reason. So here I am again wanting desperately to not fail this time.

So I guess this thread is for anyone that does walk, anyone that is struggling to walk because of depression or anxiety issues. And anyone else really......

I am unsure of the outcome of all this. But my ideas included: Sharing about things we have found out about exercise especially about walking. Writing down the reasons that one would chose to walk ( like something to help motivate). Being accountable in same way. Sharing about the places where we actually do walk, like the beach, gym, around the block, with the dog, out to the clothesline and back. And any other useful tips that could help others. So here we go......

Hi Kaitoa and All,

This morning I managed 1/2 hour of stretches for my back and then a half hour walk. Yah. I saw a couple of rabbits on my walk. I think one of them as full of those Ever Ready batteries as it was hopping along the track in front of me at record pace!

Also did some gardening, shovelling dirt and loading up piles of weeds onto the compost heap.

Right, now to think which way I will walk tomorrow!

Cheers all from Mrs. D

Hi Mrs D You did really well. Hope you enjoyed your walking,& gardening.

I had to drop my husband off nr the station today so I parked the car & walked from there for a change. This meant walking up a very steep road followed by a lot of steps before walking back in a loop. I felt much better this morning after a good nights sleep. I'm still tired which is normal given the medical procedure I had yesterday. Hopefully I will improve.

Hey Kiatoa and dog Bundy,

Good on you, for going for a walk. Does Bundy actually pull you along? I have seen dogs do that to the person holding their lead. It is not a joke, I just want to know is all. Yeah I agree, It is better to find some type of exercise you like. You are more likely to stick to it. Sometimes it is a bit of an adventure to try something you haven't done before, because you never know you might actually enjoy doing it.

And may I say well done to you for losing all that weight. That's heaps impressive!

Hey Elizabeth,

How are you feeling today, after all the tests and such? Have you got any energy back as yet. Like enough to be able to walk somehow today?

Shell xx

Yeah yah to you Mrs D, in fact three cheers to you.

Wow you done heaps of physical stuff today. Is the place where you walked, is that like your property or what?

Hip hip hooray......Hip hip hooray.......Hip hip hooray!

Well I managed to get out to the beach today. It was so refreshing breathing in the sea air. It wasn't that hot, it was a bit cloudy though. I planned to walk the whole length of the beach, but I didn't make that distance .I sat for a while too, and stared out at the rough waves and dug little holes in the sand.

Earlier on though I walked a few blocks on the footpath to an appointment. Then I needed to walk back to my car.

So yeah.....

Just letting you all know, I have walked today. I wrote a previous post but well....it has not come through as yet.

Love all

Hi Shell and all,

We do have 5 acres of land here. Guess if I walked around and around I could clock up 1/2 an hour of walking.

It is quite a distance from the front garden to the compost heap, that trip alone keeps me fit some days! Ha. Ha.

We have a dirt road just past our driveway. I enjoy walking there except for when the trucks and cars go past. If it is a double length truck, by the time that goes past I am covered in grey dirt and choking.

The other road near us is a highway, so that is busy all of the time. I occasionally cut across a farmer's paddock, not sure that is quite acceptable or not. I can go for a short drive and find a different place to walk along a trail. It is all very open though so I cook when it is over 25 degrees. Ha. Ha.

Keep on moving everyone!

Cheers again from Mrs. Dools

Oh five acres of land, that is the amount we had whilst growing up. I use to walk right down the back through the bush mainly. Though dad had cleared away some of the bush, so there was a little trail in parts. The family dog use to come along and walk with me.

Have you decided if and where you are going to walk tomorrow then? I will most likely walk on the beach again,as I am driving that way tomorrow.

And yeah that would keep you pretty fit walking to the compost heap, are you pushing a wheelbarrow full of weeds and stuff. That would be good exercise, but you probably already knew that.

Hi Shell and everyone here!

Thank you - I feel so much better, of course.

It was a tough road getting here with the obesity, then bulimia, then the dysfunctions that go with all that as well.

Im grateful to be here.

Intermittent fasting works for me, and all the other body-basics that I now do.

Today 6/12/16

Bundy and I went for our 40min walk.

To answer your question - I know it's not quite legal but I walk Bundy off leash.

I've had him since he was 9months, he's 12yrs now.We just have a strong bond - he never runs off, or attacks other dogs or people.

He's perfect in that way.

Just had dinner - homemade SpicedLamb Penne w/ Cos Lettuce&Toasted Sunflower seed salad.

Was most delicious...if I do say so myself.

Just had some black licorice for a sweet treat. I love the stuff...but only the good stuff.

I'm feeling good.

Hi Mrs Dools! - Good on you. Keep it all up. I will keep moving with you.
