Things pets do to make you laugh

Hi everyone,

I often look at my 2 cats & think how much I love them, how much they make me laugh & how they are the only reason I'm still on this earth.  I'm interested in hearing about other people's pets & the positive impact they have on our lives, especially in times of distress. 

I have been the happy "employee" (dogs have owners & cats have staff) of 2 cats for 4 years now & every day they find new & hilarious ways to crack me up.  I had gone to the Lort Smith Animal Hospital with the intent to find a short haired cat, but came home with a long haired cat with 3 legs. . . . .

and his fat girlfriend.

Still not sure how it happened.

I installed a cat door but because the 3 legged male cat had difficulty negotiating the gap between the front inner door & the security door, I went down to Bunnings and bought some wood & made him a disabled ramp to span the gap & slant down to the ground.  I also glued some carpet to the ramp to give him some "purchase" for his claws.  He loved it!

The following day he presented me with half a mouse as a thank you.  It was placed lovingly on my pillow with much strutting about & meiowing & it took a good 10 minutes of fur-stroking & lavish praise for his hunting prowess before he could calm down.  I'm happy to say that nowadays he holds me in such esteem that he gives me the entire 'kill'.  That's right folks, instead of pieces of mouse, I get the whole thing. 

Today he presented me with his most recent 'kill' which was half a sausage scavenged from the next door neighbour's BBQ last night.  I don't know, I think his hunting skills are geting a bit rusty.

The female cat has a habit of hunting stationary objects as she's a bit short-sighted & often mistakes rocks as prey.  She also has a galloping case of dandruff & looks like a giant lamington on legs.  She's completely obsessed with food, treats every meal as if it's her last & will often be found sitting next to her food bowl, looking hopeful & drooling.

These 2 furry monsters are the reason I get out of bed every day.  They're always happy to see me, they're hilarious to watch & they're a great comfort, especially when things are crappy.

Hi there Stitch

As you can tell from my pic, I LOVE animals also;  and I've changed my pic a few times to reflect the different animals we have in our home.

I really enjoyed your stories of your beloved cats and your wonderful DIY effort on the cat ramp with carpet.

Still am a bit unsure as to the mouse being displayed on your pillow though !  🙂

But this is a great thread you've started and I hope others jump on board and provide some interesting and even funny replies.

The little one in the picture is my Mum's dog;  Tess, who is 15yo and in that photo it's not long after we obtained her;  she was a matted mess and so we got in a dog grooming person, who washed and cleaned her up and gave her a good shave;  that was back in mid-October, so she's developing quite a bit of fur/hair and becoming just (no, not becoming - she's always been) so cute.  🙂

But being 15yo, she's not as stable on her footing as she used to be and when she gets excited and tries to whirl around in a circle, most times she loses balance and falls over.  But she's just beautiful.

dear Stitch, of course I have to reply to this, as you can see it's Moo-Moo in the picture who my son and his wife already had, but they gave her to me when my other puppie Tessie had to be put down which broke my heart, as I had her for 18 years, so now it's Moo-Moo who snoozes like crazy.

I had built some steps up to my bed when Tessie hurt her leg, and when I was moving I ask the removal chaps to please take care of these steps, imagine the look I got, and now my grand daughter loves crawling up them, and then barks!

I could never be without a small puppie and Moo-Moo has her funny little ways which make me laugh. Geoff.

Hi Neil & Geoff,

Thanks for your replies.  I'm really glad you liked my post & I just love the photos of Tess & Moo-Moo.  What gorgeous little puppies they are 🙂  Is Moo-Moo a short-haired terrier Geoff?  They're my favourite kind of dog; really intelligent and if I didn't live in a flat I would definitely have a dog just like her.

Tess looks like a real sweetheart Geoff.  what kind of dog is she?  I think it's really cute (& a wee bit sad) that she loses her balance when she gets excited. 

My pets are so important to me, especially as I've been estranged from my family since I was 15.  They're such a comfort & can be a real life-line for people who are lonely, isolated &/or experiencing depression.

Neill I just wanted to clarify that it's the cats who put their kills on my bedroom pillow - not me!  They're always so proud of themselves when they come in with their hunting trophys & assume that I will be just as excited to receive a dead rodent as a present.  Bless their furry little bottoms!

Dear Stitch

Thank you so much for your response back – informing me that it was the cats displaying the mice on the pillow and not you.   I did pick that up, but when you clarified it, it made me laugh.  I’ve got a big smile on my face as I write this;  and hence why I thank you, because it’s something I don’t do enough of (smiling) and the way you wrote it, was superb.  🙂

Little Tess is a silky terrier – and she’s probably a bit sad yes, because my Mum who had her for all of her 15 years, passed away in October last year.  She had 9 years out on the family farm;  then a further 6 years when Mum moved into a suburban house and all that while, through the brutal heat and icy winters, she was always an outdoors dog.  But now with us, she’s indoors as much as our other dog is – so pretty much a helluva lot while we’re home;  and then they’ve got their beddies that they sleep on, out on the deck, which is very sheltered and glass doors so they can see in.  Tess has taken to inside living brilliantly – she still has the odd ‘wee’ accident, but really for a dog that has never been inside, her toileting isn’t too bad.  But she loves being inside;  and she has an inside beddie and an outside beddie now.  And to see her when she gets so excited is just brilliant and yes, she’s as deaf as a post and yet we still talk to her.  Humans are funny aren’t they !!

dear Stitch, Moo-Moo is a Jack Russell cross and is short haired, and we are having a battle to control her red skin at the moment, but it is this time of the year and is not itchy any more as my little vet has put her on daily tablets but these cost $10 per pill, and thankfully my pet insurance pays 80 % of this, so a months supply costs me just over $200, but slowly it is working, they must do this to make more money.

Neil's Tess is adorable isn't she, and while I am typing this just before I logoff I have Moo-Moo making all these funny little noises with her front paws tucked under her body, which she always makes in enjoyment and satisfaction, they are what makes my day. Geoff.

hahaha neil we do the same with the 3 year old deaf border collie (born without hearing)

we always talk to him and he surprisingly talks back by making strange noises lol, if 8 pm comes and he hasnt been fed god help us walking outside we never hear the end if it hahah.

stitch just be thankful you only get rodents dj (deejington for long) is in love with fetch and if he cant find a toy to bring us (because weve put them all on the air conditioner haha) he brings anything he deems throwable, including socks, pegs, bits of tile he pulls off the veranda... and even once brought my friends mum a turd to throw.. yeah you did read right, he went into the yard and found a piece of poo brought it up and dropped it in my friends mums lap (funniest moment, well for us anyway not so much for her)

and when he was little he used to sleep in the rectangle washing basket, one day it was only half on the step and he hopped in it went sliding down all the steps, then got out struggled to get it back up to the top step, hopped back in and repeated that about 3 or 4 times, then put it on the step properly and got the poops when it didnt slide down hahah...  

he does some of the funniest things (and some really annoying things like eating all our pegs 😕 he seemed to think they were food and we didnt know how he was getting them lol)  

and he seems to think his a lap dog for some reason and he always puts his paw in the worst spot        

some people say they wouldnt buy a deaf dog but its really no different, his trained with sign language, when walking other dogs barking dont bother him...

i really do love the mice on the pillow bit tho bahahaha atleast my old cat just used to leave them at the front door lol

Wow, a dog being born deaf - I would assume that wouldn't be a common occurrence.  And yep, it's so weird isn't it - we're outside and say, "C'mon darlin', c'mon Tess" and you pat your leg for her to follow.  Again i'll say it, we humans are a funny breed.

Oh wow, if only you'd caught that episode on video about washing basket and sliding down the steps.  That is gold.  🙂

A young border collie - yep, they can get into mischief alright and yours has done his fair share as well - I love hearing those kinds of things.   Oh and not to mention the human ankles as well - a nip here and a nip there.

My daughter has recently taken another batch of photos (of all her animals in our place - dogs, chooks, bunnies, fish, budgie) and so I'll have to update Tess's photo very soon.

If others are reading, any of your funny moments with pets would be highly welcomed to be shared here too.

we really wish we got it on video but none of us had our phones on us 😮 shocking seeing as were massive phone addicts and if we walked in to get one he would have stopped lol, he doesnt really nibble on us, he just eats the tiles on the veranda, bricks on the house, and even tried the bbq gas bottle a few times, thank god he cant eat thru metal or bricks, he does get through the tiles though, bye bye bond bahahah
