SLEEP

Hi All,

In the past there may have been threads on sleep and how to improve our quality of sleep.

I am starting this thread up and hope to include past thread titles.

For some of us sleep is a real issue, the more we can learn about it the better informed we will be.

Funny stories on weird places you have fallen asleep are welcome as well.

For me, I had just moved house and was very busy getting everything organised. Friends invited me to the drag races. I was so tired and exhausted that I sat down, leant against the fence right near the starting line and fell asleep for most of the evening.

Hope to read some of your stories and tips.

Cheerio for now, from Mrs. Dools

Hi everyone

Paul - for three nights I went to sleep around 3am, was just wide awake til then! So, probably got around 4 hours... Last night I went about midnight, woke at 1 but back to sleep, woke at 5 but back to sleep... maybe I should stop looking at the time when I wake?!

Today I had a tiring appt with the psych so I expect to sleep. We'll see.

Hi Everyone,

Annie I hope you do get some restful sleep tonight. I don't think I will sleep well as I have my first GP appt tomorrow and am freaking out a little.

Oh man I am still much awake. It is 5:20am here. Yesterday I drank 2 iced coffees made on soy milk, instant coffee and sweetened with coconut sugar. This was about 1 pm. Super yummy

I have not had caffeine for a very long time, I do not even know when the last time was. So yeah, I am so alert. I am even thinking about driving out to the beach very soon and watch the sun rise. That should be nice hey!!

Lesson learnt- no caffeine for me. This is nuts. Oh well I will make the most of it now.

Hi Everyone,

Shelley, oh dear, it does sound like the coffee may have affected you! I actually feel quite tired after drinking coffee! Guess we are all different.

Sometimes I think I have to just accept how little sleep I do have and not stress about not being asleep! That just makes it worse. Maybe I need to do a little more self talk about it being okay.

Music, annie and Keypi hope you all manage to get a little more sleep or at least appreciate the sleep you do have and find ways to relax during the day and leading into the evenings especially.

Cheers all from Dools

Oh yeah Mrs D, the caffeine did give me some kind of high. I was unable to sleep at all last night. It was pointless even trying. So I watched ytube for quite a while, then greeted the birds as they woke up for the day. Then drove out to watch the sun rise!

And I totally agree it is not worth stressing over. I have heard coffee can make some tired, it can be dehydrating. My body just was not use to all the caffeine.

Hi all

Keypi - thinking of you, hope the gp appt was ok?

Dools - good point thank you, appreciate the sleep I did have...I don't actually feel terrible, it's just weird being aware at night that I 'should' be asleep when I'm not but then Shelley had a great attitude of not fighting it and enjoying the birds and the sunrise.

Shelley - I hadn't had any caffeine in the last few months either and in recent days have had a little bit so perhaps that's contributing...

Hi Everyone 🙂

I got a bit a sleep last night, I did still roll around a lot but don't feel like my eye balls are dragging on the ground today. I do feel like a nap right now though but I'll see how I go.

I always though napping was bad as it may make it harder to sleep the night, but if you already don't sleep then having a nap to refresh your brain could be good. Please tell me your thoughts on napping.

Annie - Thank you, yes the drs went well and he gave me a medication to start on he said it may even help me sleep a bit without a hangover effect so I will see how I go with that one.

Shelley - That sounds so nice I would love to do that. It's nice to turn a situation around and make the best of it 🙂

Dools - I completely agree when I worry about why I'm not sleeping or think to myself 'damn I'm suppose to be asleep, why can't I sleep' or 'come on I'll need on be awake in this many hours try to get some sleep' it never helps the situation only makes it harder to sleep because you then know there is a pressure to sleep. On those nights I just try to do other things if I end up feeling tired I just go straight to bed again.

Hi Everyone......and thankyou Dools for your great thread topic too!

Hey Annie....That would be a pain....having the roller coaster ride where sleep is concerned. It is exhausting the next day...as the lack of sleep would make our day harder than it has to be.. I know that many people have covered this yet here are a few points of why its difficult to have a quality sleep

  • having an exhausted mind through life events that are worrying/stressing us
  • using a mobile or a PC before bed can overstimulate our brain activity thus making sleep difficult
  • living in an environment that is unpleasant or toxic
  • unresolved personal or family issues can also make a quality sleep difficult to achieve
  • having ongoing poor quality sleep for a protracted period can sometimes make our health worse...a GP is always a bonus even if meds are prescribed too

Hey Keypi....Great move seeing your GP....I really hope you feel even a little better 🙂

Hi Everyone,

Man I had the worst sleep last night that I've had in a long time which was a total of no sleep at all. That of course made it very difficult to work today 😕 I felt like I could barely hold my eyes open driving this morning. It was terrible.

I'm house sitting tonight so I'll see how much sleep I get, it can be hard sleeping somewhere new, on an unfamiliar bed. However with how tired I'm feeling I'm really hoping my body will just crash and my brain will turn off and rest a little.

How is everyone going?

Hi Everyone,

Hi Keypi,

Does reading make you tired? Maybe yo could try counting back from 200 in 3s and see if that distracts your mind.

Sometimes I find taking in a deep breath for 6 seconds, hold for 3 exhale for 6 seconds, counting all the time helps to slow down my mind as I can't concentrate on the breathing and my negative racing thoughts.

Have you tried a few stretches before you go to bed, some muscle relaxing, even a self face and neck massage can be relaxing.

I really do hope yo get some sleep tonight!

All the best to you from Dools
