Practicing DBT skills

Community Member

I think there are a few of us here with BPD at the moment and some have done DBT. I thought maybe we can start a thread where we share the skills that we use. Explain the skill and what you did.

E.G at the moment I am trying to practice distress tolerance - self soothe.

Last night I bought nice ingredients for my dinner (I didn't not get certain things because they are expensive like usually).

Tonight I am going to have a hot shower and wash my hair and smell the products I use.

Great thread Joey!!

I use exercise as a distraction tool.  The other day I was eating a banana and was very mindful of what I was eating, how I was chewing it and the look of the banana.  It got me thinking about how bananas grow and why are they the colour they are. That was being mindful.

Tonight I am going to eat a pasta bake with herb pizza and I am going to chew it slowly and be mindful of the taste, the look and the feel of the food in my mouth.

Hi Jo. You should look up how pineapples grow. I think they are very cool.

Today I will do exercise and try to finish a piece of work I need to hand in (even though it's not due till Wednesday). I can't remember what skill that would be... Oh it's build mastery in emotional regulation. Do something that makes you feel like you have accomplished something. They suggest paying bills on my app - maybe should do that too!

Its a good app - do you have an iPhone? I am not sure if I can put the name of the app here because maybe that's considered advertising. But it's got a list of all the skills and an electronic diary card.

Might just do that Joey - pineapples yum!!

Today I will do some ironing (i know that's boring), clean some windows and possibly take the dog for a walk down the beach.

I do have an iPhone but not sure what app you are talking about - that sounds good though.  Write back and tell me the app - if the mods think it's not appropriate they won't put it on.

Have a nice day Joey

It's called DBT. It's icon is blue grey with DBt written across bottom and then kind if like a brain/tree pic.
