Hi Guys,
One of the forms of therapy that I've tried, with quite a bit of success, is music therapy. So I was wanting to start a thread for what types of music people listen to: To help with Anxiety, To help with Depression, To motivate you, To help you sleep, To distract you from urges or unhelpful thoughts, To help you feel less tense or stressed.
So my question is what music moves you?

And songs that have a particular memory that makes me smile - " circle of life" as the family love the Lion King musical, "beautiful boy" and "the lion sleeps tonight" as I sang them as lullabies to my baby son. Then songs with a message " Nothing else matters " the Gambler", "Some days are diamonds" " Fix you". Anyway, it is a list that calms me as it is predictable, helps me feel positive and strong again. Music is a distraction and for me I feel a sense of "resetting" and can then continue on with my supporting role.

Hey Amber
Good thread to start up!!!
Geoff - the power of love was my wedding song.
I love listening to Celine Dion, Whitney Houston, Abba (love Abba). Some songs have a real meaning to me and I can sit there and listen to the words over and over again.
I also love listening to relaxation music - anything I google. I love to be on my own, close my eyes and just listen to the music. It takes me away to another place.

Hi Guys,
What a great list to get us started. Many of you have commented on lyrics, and I guess music can have impacts through both the words, the rythym, and the music itself. I like the suggestion of playlists, I also think having a device (Ipod or a mobile) with some songs on their that either calm you or lift you with you at all times can be really useful. Some artists that I enjoy listening to are;
To Calm/Relax - Sade, Enya, Alicia Keys, Michael Buble, Keith Urban
To Energise - I don't think I can go past a best of the 80's soundtrack with Cyndie Lauper, Michael Jackson, Madonna, or Boy George.
We don't have to be great singers to let our hair down and belt out a tune either, so it's a great distraction technique. Music can also be good inspiration for poetry and journaling. You can even change some of the lyrics in a song to better suit your thoughts or feelings.
