Help: Health issues/Quitting Smoking/Hypoglacemia

Hi there. I need help or advice or guidance.

I have a few health things going on which I am trying to sort out. Quitting smoking is one of them. But I differ with hypoglacemia and I was told to get my sugar levels sorted out before I quit. As smoking affects them. I didn’t know. I’m tired all the time and it’s now really taking its toll. My chest is sore so I’m not sure if it’s from eating the wrong food with the hypoglacemia or if it’s from anexity or if it’s from my muscles in my shoulders being that tight that it’s starting to make my chest feel uncomfortable. I don’t feel myself anymore and I hate being by myself. I haven’t sunk this low for awhile. I can’t seem to get excited about anything. I had a very stressful week last week and not sure if my body is now trying to relax from that. I don’t know what to do anymore

Hi Oddsocks,

I think it sounds like you have a lot going on at the moment. You sound as though you’ve been feeling down, drained and overwhelmed, plus you have quite a few health stressors on top. I admire you for wanting to quit smoking though...that’s a very brave decision in my eyes...

Sorry if this is something you’ve already done, but as I don’t know your history, I wonder if you’ve seen a GP for a full body check-up?

The reason that I’m gently suggesting it is I feel it’s often a good start to rule out (or identify) any underlying health issues for your blood sugar levels, low mood, etc. That is just a little idea though...

It would be lovely to hear from you again when and if you feel like writing. No pressure of course. Thinking of you with kind thoughts...

HI Oddsocks and welcome

Sounds like you have a lot on your plate which is stressful in itself, but it has caused you not to feel like yourself of late which just makes it worse. Can I ask if you are seeing a psychologist or talking to anyone about it? I find just venting about my stress helpful. I like to vent to a professional as this is what they signed up for and they chose to do it for a carer. However I do also talk to friends and family about some things too

With quitting smoking, I want to say congratulations for taking the first step and wanting to quit. It is a shame that hypoglycaemia is causing some issues with this process. But remember it is a process and it will take time, so try not be discouraged.

I am not sure what all your health conditions are, but I know some (including mental health) entitle you to a chronic disease management plan (previously known as EPC) This allows you to see 5 medicare subsidised sessions for allied health professionals. If you are struggling with hypoglycaemia maybe seeing a registered dietitian may help you with your diet to prevent this happening, and how to deal with it when it does. Maybe something to consider. (Note when making appointment maybe call and let them know you want this done, it isn't quite a long appointment but a bit longer than a standard one)

Hope some of this advice has been helpful.
