ENCOURAGEMENT INSPIRATION MOTIVATION

Hi All,

It is not always easy to feel motivated or inspired to do anything when you are feeling deeply depressed or when suffering from some other mental health issues.

I'd like people to use this thread to share ideas/thoughts/quotes/poems on how you manage to motivate, inspire and encourage yourself to do things when it all feels just too hard to even try.

Who of you remember that song/story about the little train that kept saying "I think I can! I think I can!" as it climbed up a steep hill? Sometimes I need to tell myself the same thing: "I think I can!" If I start thinking "there is no way I can do that, then I won't even attempt to make an effort.

Hopefully others will post ideas and thoughts here that may be very beneficial to others.

Cheers all from Dools

Today I motivated myself to clean up part of the garden. If I looked at the whole garden I would have felt totally overwhelmed!

Instead I chose one section to clean up. I am very pleased with the results and will make an effort to spend time in that section now it is looking so nice.

I'm encouraged now to use the chair I have placed in this area, and feel inspired to do more in the garden tomorrow...if it is not too hot.

One step at a time, one small job at a time and we can accomplish things. Ah INSPIRATION and ENCOURAGEMENT! They are great!

Believe and Achieve

It would be wonderful if everything in life would be that simple! I think this guy had a lot more belief in his abilities than I have mine! Ha. Ha. I do try though so that is the main thing.

Winston Churchill said

Failure is not fatal: it is courage to continue that counts.

Now I like that saying! I find it encouraging to keep on trying and to not give up!

Adding to your statement above: The first step to anything worthwhile is to dream Once you've had the dream then you have 2 choices leave it as a dream or continue to think about the dream until you come up with a plan to work towards it.

Hi Elizabeth,

I really like what you have written! That makes so much sense! It is one thing to have a dream, another thing to work on making it come true. If the dream doesn't turn out exactly as you had first imagined, at least you have given it a go!

Another quote along similar lines is from Cecil B DeMille

The person who makes a success of living, is the one who sees his or her goal clearly, and aims for it unswervingly - that is dedication.

Do any of you have any dreams you would like to put into action?

Hi Everyone,

Is anyone looking for some encouragement today?

I have just been having a chat on another thread and have been encouraged to write a funny poem for White Knight's thread containing funny poems and stories.

A little bit of Encouragement is all we need sometimes to get us going.

I was having a little trouble feeling like I fitted in and belonged at a group I attend once a week. I had a chat about this with a counsellor, then when I returned to the group, I tried to look at the whole situation through different eyes and discovered the situation wasn't as bad as I had been making it out to be.

I realised there were little things I could do to make it feel like I had as much right as anyone else to be there. I also realised that each person there is an individual, and I am my own person. I don't have to be like any one else, I just need to be me!

So being me it is! Warts and all. ( so to speak) I attended this group last night and through different eyses I enjoyed myself! Just a change of thought and a different opinion and all was good.

Anyone needing any encouragement for anything? People here might be able to offer some advice and suggestions.

Cheers, from Mrs. Dools

Dreams...usually need super determination. Half way from building my own home I had to lift large sheets of plaster to the second floor. My old back injury had returned and I needed to twist my back walk up the stairs carrying the sheets. After 2 hours I collapsed, cried for 30 minutes then made a coffee. After I drank my coffee I stared at the plaster sheets and continued on. It didn't beat me. 4 weeks later I moved from my shed into my home. I had my kids for that weekend. I'd hung their fairy curtains and made their new beds with fairy doona covers. The pain was worth it, the rebounding attitude...priceless.

Hi White Knight,

Thanks for your story. You certainly showed determination to complete your home and have it organised for your children.

A while ago I bought a tent. I have used it a couple of times. I hope to set it up again here at home and use the equipment I was given with the tent.

My dream is to go camping in one of the forests in a National Park. I have to wait until the end of the fire ban season until I can camp in the forest, so in the mean time I can use all the equipment and get organised.

Dreams, yes, they may well need a lot of effort. Some may never happen, but you can still dream all the same!

Cheers all from Mrs. Dools

Hi Mrs Dools,

google "topic: inexpensive recovery idea- camping- beyondblue"

We cant go into National Parks as we have a small dog. But as I've just finished building our own caravan (with shower and toilet) we do get to locations that are relaxing. We just spent 2 days on the Murray River between Mulwala and Tocumwal.

Life is great but it has taken a lot of planning to know what we want to be comfortable. Everyone has a different view of comfort. I need a CPAP at night so 12 volt power is essential so solar power was the answer and so on. I love birds so we take our book of Australian birds with us. We are heading off around Oz in April.

Hi Tony and all,

I think I have all I need for a weekend of camping. I just need to get it all out of the shed and make sure everything works as it should.

I'm also wondering if my chronic fatigue is making a return as I am so darn tired these days it is ridiculous. I know I am really tired when I am making a client's bed and all I want to do is climb into it for a few hours sleep. Ha. Ha.

They would have quite a surprise wouldn't they!

We have friends who are planning to do a year's travelling around Australia with their 5 year old grandson! They haven't bought their van yet as they can't decide what they want.

So my first step is to get the equipment out of the shed and use it all here at home. If the tent collapses or the air bed explodes, all I have to do is walk back inside. Ha. Ha.

I will check out the google topic you mentioned as well.

Cheers for now, from Mrs. Dools

Sounds like an incredible adventure travelling round OZ. I'm not game to try that. I saw my psychologist today & discussed my goals & plans. He questioned every goal asking why I was doing at & & then questioning my answers so I had to stick up for myself & provide good reasons. This was positive because it forced my to really think more deeply about what I was doing. Being clear about why I want/need to do something & ensuring these reasons are consistent with my values makes it more likely for me to stick to my goals..
