Should I get a new driving instructor

well im going for a test soon and this instructor has been really rude to me and had raised his voice at me and hasn’t been really been clear about explaining stuff to me so I was doing a reverse parallel parking and it came up to the full lock right which I didn’t know at the time because he explained it the way that I would not get and then when I said to him like which way do I have to turn the wheel on and then he said obviously it’s the right way like you said it to me like in like a very very rude tone and I asked him do I have to stop and break before I do do the full lock left for 45° angle and then he like touched my shoulder and I felt like so uncomfortable and he’s like an older man too. We can’t find any women around here. I just feel so uncomfortable and I just feel like that. I can’t do the driving lesson before the driving test with him because I just feel like I’m just gonna get yelled at

if any advice please reply to this.

Dear New Member~

I'd like to welcome you here to the Forum, I'm glad you came as you have a real problem. Having a license is very necessary nowadays.

Taking the actual test can be a very stressful thing and requires concentration. The last thing you need is to be waiting to be yelled at or touched.

While there may not be may female instructors, that is no guaranteed that some of them don't yell or give you unclear instructions like the man you have now..  However there are  many of either sex who are good teachers, calm, no yelling, corrections given to point out what oyu have done right and clear easy to understand instructions.

So I'd suggest you give consideration to swapping to another instructor if convenient.

If you would like to come back and say how you go that would be great

Hi there,

I agree with Croix that looking into a new driving instructor would be a good idea. It's important for you to feel relaxed, safe and comfortable with whoever you work with.

One thing I have learned as I've gotten older is how to be assertive about getting my needs met. I used to continue to tolerate something that wasn't working well for me, but now I make a conscious decision to switch to a better option.

It's ok to set boundaries around what you feel ok with and what you do not. If you try someone new you have a chance of having a different experience and someone who communicates with you in a way that you find easier to follow and you are more comfortable with.

You are entitled to switch instructors and if I were you that's what I would do. I hope you find someone better to work with and best of luck with the driving test.

Hi there,

Thank you for writing in! Driving can often feel stressful even for people who have their license for years, so I can imagine this to be an uncomfortable situation for you. My biggest piece of advice for this would be to request a new instructor. You do not need to stay in a situation that is making you uncomfortable and getting in the way of a goal you have for yourself. When I was doing my drivers test I remember being so nervous, but it helped having an instructor who I felt prepared me well and that I felt at ease with.

Try and ask people you know if they recommend any driving instructors. That way you know it is someone who you possibly have mutual connections with and therefore hopefully will end up being a better experience.

All the best and keep us updated on how you go if you would like!
