Scared To Express Love

Nyletac
Community Member

I'm bisexual, and have a girlfriend, we've been dating for over a month, but we haven't done anything in FRONT of people ( kiss, hug ). It's mainly because I choose not too, I'm scared of the judgement that will come with this type of relationship. I can tell my girlfriend is getting sick of it.

I love her, and I want to show the world, but how do I do that if I'm scared to be judged ?

Please help....

Hi Nyletac, welcome!

I understand the judgement and being scared to express affection in front of other people - It can cause a lot of internal conflict, wanting to show your loved one you care but being scared of the repercussions.

I wonder what the worst thing that might happen if you were in a safe place, say in St Kilda or Prahran and you kissed your girlfriend? What would some of the worst forms of judgement be that you wouldn't want to face?

It's probably scary to think about this, but if you could let me know we might be able to uncover some interesting things about judgement together.

Take care - let's talk soon.

Hi Nyletac, welcome...

I'm glad you are here. Sometimes I have to ask the question, am I more worried about them or me? Either way, we can work through together. I understand that the added complexity and attitudes around being by is actually quite isolating sometimes, do you feel that? The important thing is that you matter, and you have a relationship that sounds worth it.

I agree with what Paul said, do you think it possible that you might feel more comfortable with affection in a public place where there were other Lesbian and Bi people about?

Rob.
