Midsummer, Mardi Gras, and Pride

Midsummer is happening fairly soon in Melbourne. I have had mixed experiences at Pride events, from feeling included to on the outer. It probably helps to go with people I guess, and some of the festival events are a way better option. I'm wondering about the experience others have engaging with these community events and am considering heading north or south this year...

Chill Out in Daylesford is pretty cool. As you can guess from the name, it's a bit more chilled out 🙂

Hey Rob,

I've never been to Midsumma despite living in Melbourne for 15 years. I've been to mardi gras a few times and cringe at the ongoing spectacle that perpetuates negative stereotypes. The best mardi gras was the year that the police were allowed to march, fireys, ambo's Qantas staff, it truely was a re-birth of the spirit of mardi gras THAT particular year because it represented a step forward. Now I feel it's just another street party except with people in not very much clothing. Don't get me wrong here, I love a good undie party, but I think the message is lost.
