New here - diagnosed Severe PTSd today

Hi,

I am new here, and don't want to post anything that will upset anyone. I just wanted to say hello, introduce myself and ask for a little advice.

I am a 42 year old female, just recently diagnosed with severe PTSD and MDD. I have been prescribed medication. I am a little scared about this, because of the negative stuff online, but my psychiatrist reckons it will help me sleep and after a few months he intends for me to have the rapid eye movement therapy (sorry I can't remember the proper name for this!!)

I would really appreciate any advice at all

Thank you

Red xx

Hi Red,

Welcome to this forum. It's good that you're reaching out for support. That's great that you're getting help from a psychiatrist. Best of luck with the rapid eye movement therapy.

Is there anything in particular that you'd like advice about?

Hi RedDragonfly,

welcome to the forums.

There is a wealth of information in these forums, take a scroll through the headings and ask questions as you see fit or keep going here with any specifics and people will reply as they can.

Its great that you have a name and direction for helping you deal with whatever you have been struggling with in your life, if you are anything like me it’s a relief to read so much information and see how many other people deal with similar situation, and how many have learnt to live with their trauma.

Feel free to share your story here if you so wish, just give a little warning at the start if there is any ‘trigger’ words or experience you are going to open up to, sometimes sharing your story can make you feel a bit better too. Just remember though that once you share it will remain here for everyone to see so be careful and be safe.

The eye movement thing you are talking about is EMDR, I’d love to get some feedback on that when you have experienced it. I’ve heard it can do great things but takes quite a few visits because they have to make sure you’re safe first.

So keep us up to date and welcome
