Its still so raw with me it only feels like yesterday. But i see a realy big funny side to it that only me and my dog could get fired from volunteer workπ . About 7ish yrs ago i joined a volunteer organization which starts off paintings for nursing homes, mental health units ect to finish them. I don't know if im allowed to say the organizations name? For 1yr i put my absolute all into that place. They had become a family to me. I TRUSTED them. I was a very hard worker. Always arrived on time. Very corteous. I took my dog with me. My dog never got in the way. The boss lady became nasty the day i told her i was offered a housing commision place which i accepted. The boss lady said how selfish i was to accept a place when technicaly i had a roof over my head and i was taking it away from familys living in cars. She knew my abusive living situation i was in. She came to my house and fired me. This is why i will NEVER EVER do volunteer work again. Im telling this story in the very small chance someone else has been fired from volunteer work that there not alone.

Hi Helium,
Thanks for sharing!
I think you ex-boss is extremely ignorant, I don't know if she was aware of the illness you suffer, or the periodic nature of many mental illnesses. I suppose you could tell us the name of the organisation, but no point in shaming I guess. It's sad that many scarce services such as housing go to people with bogus asylum claims or drug addictions, while people with mental illness go without.

Hi, welcome
Can I ask you a few questions?
Because this happened at a volunteer organisation, does that, in your mind, mean it can happen at every other group?
Do you think it can happen in a paid place of work?
When we are treated unfairly we can take thing to extremes. We often lose our sense of being realistic and it isnt so abnormal for those that are sensitive.
For that event to be still in the forefront of your mind 7 years later tells me you are not unlike myself.
It might mean therapy would be beneficial to you.
Beyondblue Topic who cries over spilt milk?
All the best
