Hi, I've been diagnosed for quite a few years now. But honestly I'm not sure I understand what complex PTSD is? Could anyone explain? And do any of you have any treatments you could suggest for me? So tired of struggling. Please and thank you

Hi Sapphire Dream,

From my best understanding CPTSD is more in relation to trauma that has occurred over an extended period of time and often in childhood/adolescence.
Many psychiatrists and psychologists have differing beliefs on this but as CPTSD was not recognised in the DSMV of mental illnesses.
It’s honestly good to do your own research if you feel you are able to. I have PTSD, but a lot of times both are treated very similar but there are some differences.
I’ve been told a good starting place in reading is “complex PTSD from surviving to thriving - Pete Walker”. That might help you.
Treatments, I’m honestly still searching myself with PTSD, I honestly hit a brick wall at times in Australia. One thing I have found but through research and I’m not sure if it applies with CPTSD is that weight training and getting the boxing gloves on helps. I do have a lot of built up frustration, anger and my head never stops and a PT that understands my issues helps me a lot. Exercise does seem to work, but not gentle exercise but exhausting exercise. I guess just work out to your budget, social constraints, etc. I also went in telling all the PTs my mental issues and found my perfect fit, so it helps to share.
I hope that’s been a little helpful.

This has been incredibly helpful. Thank you so much for such a detailed and thought out answer. ❤️ I hope your journey is going a bit more smoothly than mine
