Daily struggle with PTSD.. I get overwhelmed, angry and end up hitting myself.. Anyone else?

It's been happening ever since about 4 years after the initial trauma (sexual abuse).. About the same time I developed crippling OCD.. The initial abuse was at age 8 and these things began at 12.. I'm 23 now and have battled the whole time and have permanent bumps on my head due to the hitting.. I've been in a relationship for 4 years and its been a bumpy road for my partner seeing that and being right next to me when it happens.. I had councelling for over 10 years at different times been on about 20 different types of medication and I just can't escape it.. I want to know if anyone else has or experiences anything similar??

Dear Big_Lok~

Good oyu came here. I don't know why but anger is so much part of it. I have PTSD from different causes and do not react in quite the same way, the blame goes inward, the anger outside. I used to be frightened I'd hit my partner - never happened though. I've some sort of good news, as time goes on it does get better. I say sort of because it has not been all that quick.

Maybe I'm lucky, but a couple of psychiatrists and finally settling on some meds has got me to a much better place, plus my partner was wonderful. I owe her a lot. One thing that helped her was her mum, who gave practical and emotional support - love. Does your partner have anyone?

With that much counseling I'm sure you would know having strategies to fall back on when feeling 'taken over' or 'overwhelmed' is a good thing to try for. Can I ask what sort of things you have? I used to walk like mad. When a bit calmer carpentry - made lots of bookcases.

I would like it if you came back again, it can help at times
