Bengali Australian

Ronnie
Community Member

Hey there!

I was born in Bangladesh and moved to Australia when I was young. I completed my Master's degree and am currently 42 years old. I also serve as a Justice of the Peace and enjoy doing a lot of community work.

Even though I love being part of this multicultural society, I sometimes find it a bit challenging to connect with people, especially when it comes to making female friends. I’m excited to meet new people and build some meaningful friendships!

Hi Ronnie and thankyou for your JP role, that is some achievement and reflection upon your standing in your community.

I grew up in Melbournes western suburbs, my family from Tasmania. I was the only Aussie more than one generation long in my class. So many of my then friends were mainly from European countries and they eventually found the same difficulty.

So might I suggest that you mingle within a similar community to seek out first generation Bengali aussies? Although Australians are very non racist overall connecting up with similar or same culture does help as you have something in common. My best friend, also a 5th generation Australian married an Italian lady and she had a deep connection with the Italian community north of Melbourne and after 25 years marriage now they both continue to visit some Italian community gatherings.

My daughter met her husband online through a dating app. The benefit of that is seeking out exactly who you could connect with. I'd also try that.

I hope that helps.
