This bipolar life

Are your moods are like an elevator with no control buttons? Mine are.

Ground floor ... I feel normal, content, just quietly getting on with ordinary, everyday life, loving my family and friends. This is as it should be. And maybe there's nothing wrong with me after all. Live.

Going up, top floor. Oh look! There's a shiny thing! I want to sing! Let's go buy stuff! Let's have a big party and invite the world! What could possibly go wrong! Woooooo hoooooooo! Play.

Going up (a different day) top floor. What do you mean you don't agree with me! I'm right! Why don't you think like me? Keep up! How can you be so illogical? I'll f-ing shred you if you don't do what I want! Rage.

Going down, lower ground floor. Flat, listless, can't be bothered. Can still function but it's a drag. Cope

Going down, basement. I'm never getting out of bed again. I'm useless, worthless. Total idiot, how could I ever imagine I could do anything, nothing ever goes right because I'm wrong. I'm a burden to everyone. Hide.

Welcome to my bipolar world. It's always been my world, but it's only recently I've seen it for what it is. About 15 years ago I was diagnosed with clinical depression during one of my 'basement' times. I had a lot of lower ground floor times too, on and off, and I kept out of the basement (so I thought) with alcohol. Until that took me into the blackest ever basement with only one obvious way out. Having survived doing something very dangerous I realised I had to stop drinking or I really would die.

I never took much notice of the playful times or the anger, that was just me, I was fun sometimes, and sometimes I was a devastating bitch. Ha! Deal with it people!

Well, yes, but in time the elevator started going up and down too quickly and, as I became more aware and more knowledgeable about mental health I realised this wasn't good. Doctor. Diagnosis. Bipolar 2. Lithium.

So, I've started this thread in the hope that other bipolar folks will join me, to share experiences and strategies. In my 'beginners' understanding, we are different from other fellow travellers of the back dog. While we experience depression as many others on this site do, the hypomanic or manic ups and, for some the rapid cycling that can happen, are experiences unto themselves.

I want to learn more, and I want to share with others. I hope my fellow elevators will join me here.
BTW, it's a ground floor day in my head today! Yay!

Love

Hi everyone,

Quirky,

I think I was in was in one of my manic phase, I eventually got to sleep around 3am. Still in hospital for two more nights and four more treatments, so far so good. Just the usual headaches and tiredness which goes the day after treatment stops.

plus once I'm here I get to catch up on my things like reading and a couple of assignments without interruption.

So a small manic phase, but back to stable now.

Hello

Is anyone out there, not sure if it's a good sign or not.

Hope things are ok with all

Issi

Hey Issi. Hope you are ok. I think everyone here hangs in the other threads these days. ARGH TAFE huh? I am ALMOST finished.

I am glad you are ok 😄

I drop by and say hello and catch up.

Someone said to me today that I seem like I am on an even keel!

I don't think I have ever been on an even keel.

OK not he big moodswings I once off, but I am always up or down or a bit flat.

What do you others think?

Quirky

The yacht my keel is on capsized.....

😂😂😂😂😂

Another vote for not being on a even keel.Well at least you folks are afloat. I've been like the Titanic, sunken, broken after hitting an iceberg. Doing ok now. Afloat with the help of my life vest.. A life worth living 🙂

My meds keep me on an even keel, so much so that I'm emotionally numb. Any adjustment when i play around with dosage stuffs me up bigtime. Lots of theraphy, time, skills learnt, so far so good. I have relapses but nothing like in the past. I know I will never be better but my new self is so much better then the old. I'm off tap sometimes as in slightly high but not the manic highs of before or the gut wrenching lows. I take it one day at a time in my small small world but that's ok. I reach out here and hopefully help others as they have helped me,

cheers Airies

Nice to see you again 🙂🙂🙂

Hi Aries. meercat by name and nature. Im Up ..i look around and then dive back in a hole.

Bp has been a part of me since i was 14, 50 years. Bp for me is like a roller coaster..up down and neutral.

Would you like to share how it affects you.

This time its different. I have just told my husband and neighbour why i sometimes hibernate for weeks then run around like a jet powered vacuum cleaner. During high time flying, i have energy, i can answer all the questions on tv quizzes, calculate solutions in my head, cook dinners and make major decisions.

When The Bp fairy sprinkles me with sleep dust and i go to bed for 3 weeks. It was scarey recently when i could not do anything, not eat, walk, feel..could not see. The walls are marked from my paw marks. I was super toxic. Waiting for adjustment to meds now.

BB forum is a wonderful support.. iv kept this secret all my life til now. Its so nice to have people to talk to..i am home alone during the day.

Just taken some berry muffins out of the oven. Mmm Would you like to join me for a cuppa or virtual smoothie drink?

Cheers meercat

Hello Meercat,

Welcome ! Everything you described is so familiar!! 😄

I like smoothies. Fruit smoothies. MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM.

This place is good. It is nice to find people who get it.
