Are your moods are like an elevator with no control buttons? Mine are.
Ground floor ... I feel normal, content, just quietly getting on with ordinary, everyday life, loving my family and friends. This is as it should be. And maybe there's nothing wrong with me after all. Live.
Going up, top floor. Oh look! There's a shiny thing! I want to sing! Let's go buy stuff! Let's have a big party and invite the world! What could possibly go wrong! Woooooo hoooooooo! Play.
Going up (a different day) top floor. What do you mean you don't agree with me! I'm right! Why don't you think like me? Keep up! How can you be so illogical? I'll f-ing shred you if you don't do what I want! Rage.
Going down, lower ground floor. Flat, listless, can't be bothered. Can still function but it's a drag. Cope
Going down, basement. I'm never getting out of bed again. I'm useless, worthless. Total idiot, how could I ever imagine I could do anything, nothing ever goes right because I'm wrong. I'm a burden to everyone. Hide.
Welcome to my bipolar world. It's always been my world, but it's only recently I've seen it for what it is. About 15 years ago I was diagnosed with clinical depression during one of my 'basement' times. I had a lot of lower ground floor times too, on and off, and I kept out of the basement (so I thought) with alcohol. Until that took me into the blackest ever basement with only one obvious way out. Having survived doing something very dangerous I realised I had to stop drinking or I really would die.
I never took much notice of the playful times or the anger, that was just me, I was fun sometimes, and sometimes I was a devastating bitch. Ha! Deal with it people!
Well, yes, but in time the elevator started going up and down too quickly and, as I became more aware and more knowledgeable about mental health I realised this wasn't good. Doctor. Diagnosis. Bipolar 2. Lithium.
So, I've started this thread in the hope that other bipolar folks will join me, to share experiences and strategies. In my 'beginners' understanding, we are different from other fellow travellers of the back dog. While we experience depression as many others on this site do, the hypomanic or manic ups and, for some the rapid cycling that can happen, are experiences unto themselves.
I want to learn more, and I want to share with others. I hope my fellow elevators will join me here.
BTW, it's a ground floor day in my head today! Yay!
Love
Kaz

Good evening to Quirky, how are the Australian athletes doing?
I am cooking a roast the full spread nice on a cold night. My husband just gave me a cute purple portable/digital speaker and his kind gesture is appreciated to the max!
It is good to see how well you have supported the para athletes, Cheers M.

I thought I would share this moment and see of others have had similar things said to them; Airies, Velvet. At the gym this morning I had a man, who I know slightly only through the gym say to me wow, you are so fit. You are very motivated, how do you do it? I said my Dad is like me. Oh so it’s genetic was his reply. Yeah, it’s genetic. I’m laughing on the inside.
The reason I look so fit and can keep going so hard at a high intensity is I have bipolar. I’m not going to say that to someone I hardly know. It’s not the first time someone has said similar things to me. Should I next time say bipolar is my secret weapon? Really it’s a power that I don’t want and I would gladly exchange for a “normal” brain. It causes me more trouble than good.

Asdff, no because you work so hard at it. God I wish I was like that . Good on you,
Velvet, beauty is in the eye of the beholder and it’s only skin deep. I would of told the person to get stuffed. I have a very low tolerance these days.
I’m trying to go for a ride and finding a million reasons not to. It’s sunny , weekend , limited traffic thanks to COVID, I should .
I had a friend I’ve known him for years, a ex work colleague contact me re a reunion celebrating decades since a facility’s closure. I’m going to tell him not to bring up any old work stuff. I don’t need it, the triggers otherwise the friendship can go.
Another friend, same scenario will be attending, good luck to him, emailed me, he’s emailed me his condolences on my father’s passing from COVID. Am I overreacting, I was furious but my Wife said what they wrote was nice. I’m quite happy to distance myself even more. Am I overreacting?

I told that chick nicely what I thought. I don't care much for body shaming and ego. In fact I hate it. I am fit, strong and not a waif but I have the perfect hourglass shape. I have boobs, butt and tiny waist with a flat stomach and that is genes. Exercise maintains it and no surgeon has enhanced it! I have a lot of body image demons but in older age I've learnt to shoosh them. I have had eating disorders and I find these things triggering.
Go enjoy some bike sunshine Airies. There is nothing more lifting to the soul.
Remember you can't control others but only yourself in any awkward situation. Always maintain the high road. If things are triggering negatively give them distance. If people are toxic walk away or remove them from your life.
I am so snacky today!

I am a super dag. 🙂
I had enchiladas........ and a coffee.
Social media. Has its merits but also has a lot of downsides. Good on you for deleting it if it wasn't working for your health.
Enjoy the bike ride hehe.
