This bipolar life

Are your moods are like an elevator with no control buttons? Mine are.

Ground floor ... I feel normal, content, just quietly getting on with ordinary, everyday life, loving my family and friends. This is as it should be. And maybe there's nothing wrong with me after all. Live.

Going up, top floor. Oh look! There's a shiny thing! I want to sing! Let's go buy stuff! Let's have a big party and invite the world! What could possibly go wrong! Woooooo hoooooooo! Play.

Going up (a different day) top floor. What do you mean you don't agree with me! I'm right! Why don't you think like me? Keep up! How can you be so illogical? I'll f-ing shred you if you don't do what I want! Rage.

Going down, lower ground floor. Flat, listless, can't be bothered. Can still function but it's a drag. Cope

Going down, basement. I'm never getting out of bed again. I'm useless, worthless. Total idiot, how could I ever imagine I could do anything, nothing ever goes right because I'm wrong. I'm a burden to everyone. Hide.

Welcome to my bipolar world. It's always been my world, but it's only recently I've seen it for what it is. About 15 years ago I was diagnosed with clinical depression during one of my 'basement' times. I had a lot of lower ground floor times too, on and off, and I kept out of the basement (so I thought) with alcohol. Until that took me into the blackest ever basement with only one obvious way out. Having survived doing something very dangerous I realised I had to stop drinking or I really would die.

I never took much notice of the playful times or the anger, that was just me, I was fun sometimes, and sometimes I was a devastating bitch. Ha! Deal with it people!

Well, yes, but in time the elevator started going up and down too quickly and, as I became more aware and more knowledgeable about mental health I realised this wasn't good. Doctor. Diagnosis. Bipolar 2. Lithium.

So, I've started this thread in the hope that other bipolar folks will join me, to share experiences and strategies. In my 'beginners' understanding, we are different from other fellow travellers of the back dog. While we experience depression as many others on this site do, the hypomanic or manic ups and, for some the rapid cycling that can happen, are experiences unto themselves.

I want to learn more, and I want to share with others. I hope my fellow elevators will join me here.
BTW, it's a ground floor day in my head today! Yay!

Love

I have an innatentive partner who thinks it is solely my job to bolster him, and serve him, be his little entertainment service, make all the plans, make all the bookings, think for him, and he won't listen to my concerns.

He feels he didn't win the lottery with me. Thats a direct quote. I am sitting here at work sobbing. I have sacrificed so much for him and his kids / ex drama over the last 5 years, copped stray bullets and I am not worth anything to him... that hurt so much. I am not worth his effort. It is all up to me.

Now I know why people cheat.

I feel for you V, that’s a horrible thing for someone to say. I’m no relationship expert, at all. It’s suppoasbly 18 degrees outside but I can’t get warm. I’m trying to be good but there’s a pack of chips just looking at me. Big week of excercise, cooked a Dahl recipe rather proud as I don’t cook. What my wife whips up in a flash takes me forever. Find in really annoying when I have to log in twice to get on BB, must be an iPad thing. Despite all I have I have these moments of despondency when I think stuff it . Do others feel the same. ? I’m ok but I don’t look to far ahead. I’ve my wife, 2 boys but life has lost its gloss

Guess I’m like the mouse or hamster on the treadmill going at a million miles an hour. I’ve been doing that and my body is protesting physically and mentally. I sound depressing ..

I had a ball on the bike, quicker ride, heartbeat and al,ost 60kph down a hill , almost childlike. My brother in the west came off his last week and awaiting surgery on broken collarbone in 3 bits. Makes you realise how fragile it can all be .

Aries as we get older are bones seem to break and that affects mobility.

This arvo has been ok. Progress made.

Speaking of cooking... I'm doing that now. It makes me happy. Mexican food yay.

V

I am glad you like cooking and are making progress.

He is being taken for a walk tomrrow as well....to a really good italian restaurant down the road.

Airies - he can be a twit. Haha. When I got home he had a gift for me that had arrived from USA. A cool tee shirt. Brownie points and timing! Do some hard exercise for me? I am still easing back into it as per Drs orders. I hope I haven't lost too much cardio fitness, but I have definitely lost inches from the diet changes and all the post op walking I have been doing. I also suspect lymphoedema was an issue with the broke veins!

I better work. Big day ahead !

Managed to get my excercise in without getting too wet. Windy, walked, cycled almost blown sideways and showered on ,arrived home and the heavens opened up. Felt good but I pigged out last night. Stepfathers not so flash, brother says he’s given up so not looking good. Brother having surgery tomorrow, turns out broken collarbone in 5 places. Getting old does suck

Sorry about brother and step father.

getting old has its challenges and has its rewards. Having grandchildren is a bonus.
