Are your moods are like an elevator with no control buttons? Mine are.
Ground floor ... I feel normal, content, just quietly getting on with ordinary, everyday life, loving my family and friends. This is as it should be. And maybe there's nothing wrong with me after all. Live.
Going up, top floor. Oh look! There's a shiny thing! I want to sing! Let's go buy stuff! Let's have a big party and invite the world! What could possibly go wrong! Woooooo hoooooooo! Play.
Going up (a different day) top floor. What do you mean you don't agree with me! I'm right! Why don't you think like me? Keep up! How can you be so illogical? I'll f-ing shred you if you don't do what I want! Rage.
Going down, lower ground floor. Flat, listless, can't be bothered. Can still function but it's a drag. Cope
Going down, basement. I'm never getting out of bed again. I'm useless, worthless. Total idiot, how could I ever imagine I could do anything, nothing ever goes right because I'm wrong. I'm a burden to everyone. Hide.
Welcome to my bipolar world. It's always been my world, but it's only recently I've seen it for what it is. About 15 years ago I was diagnosed with clinical depression during one of my 'basement' times. I had a lot of lower ground floor times too, on and off, and I kept out of the basement (so I thought) with alcohol. Until that took me into the blackest ever basement with only one obvious way out. Having survived doing something very dangerous I realised I had to stop drinking or I really would die.
I never took much notice of the playful times or the anger, that was just me, I was fun sometimes, and sometimes I was a devastating bitch. Ha! Deal with it people!
Well, yes, but in time the elevator started going up and down too quickly and, as I became more aware and more knowledgeable about mental health I realised this wasn't good. Doctor. Diagnosis. Bipolar 2. Lithium.
So, I've started this thread in the hope that other bipolar folks will join me, to share experiences and strategies. In my 'beginners' understanding, we are different from other fellow travellers of the back dog. While we experience depression as many others on this site do, the hypomanic or manic ups and, for some the rapid cycling that can happen, are experiences unto themselves.
I want to learn more, and I want to share with others. I hope my fellow elevators will join me here.
BTW, it's a ground floor day in my head today! Yay!
Love
Kaz

Hello all
This is a great place to drop in have a chat ask a question.Everyone is welcome .
Lady, how are you going? I am ok.
I was thinking about how many metaphors there are to describe bipolar.
Kazl started off thi thread with the elevator, people often say roller coaster etc.
I was wondering if someone has a word or words that liketo use describe moodswings or words that don't like.
I sometimes felt like I was on asee saw either stuck up high or low, or that I had a magical invisible coat that was dark and full of lead whenI was low and light andsilky and colourful when I was high. The elevator is a good one too.
Look forward to hearing your words.

Dropping in to say hi. I find my moods can tire me out. Not sure how to explain it beyond that. Moods, exhaustion, stress = they all seem to feed off each other.
HEHEH I cry at all sorts of things. I am highly emotional.... a HSP in fact.
I am just tired still. I have had a headache for a few days and it won't take the hint ! 😕

Me. *raises hand*
I put a lot of pressure on myself to reach a certain bench mark. Even now I am fighting off tonsillitis. But, in saying that, yesterday I hit my bed well before sunset and crashed out for almost 10 hours.
ahhaa.

Quirky
I know I have things under control for our holiday starting Saturday, but have been feeling in panic mode since Monday. Last week when I was having TMS, one of the therapists suggested I had a form of OCD. Touched on it with my Dr he said it’s likely but we’ll take after I come back. I know I like things a certain way (hanging clothes on the line, stacking dishwasher, ironing and organising the cups and plates in the cupboard). All I could think of was shit another diagnosis, as if I don’t have enough.
Bring on Hawaii on Saturday

Help Help Help Help!!!!!
My anxiety levels are through the roof and getting worse! I can’t breath I can’t thibk I can’t stay still nor can I go fast! I’m trapped! I can’t do the focus on your breathing technique as it slows me down and brings me fear. (Weird I know) I’m taking prescription tablets for it and now I’m doubling on them!
i just feel like something heavy is on me. It’s also starting to make me depressed and angry. I literally think I’m going to break down in the next day or two! But I can’t as I got to work then I’m on holidays and you think yay holidays I’ll be relaxed but hell no! Aarrrrggghhhhh feel like rubbish!

Hello everyone
Velvet, hope yiu are feeling better and getting rest.
Issi, Greta news about your holiday- enjoy. I was thinking that too just what you need another label!
Loula, that sounds awful. All I know for me writing things don helps and something I read about finding things you can smell, hear, see, touch taste . For me it is about distraction but it may not work for you.
Has you medication chnaged lately or are you under more stress than usual?
I have told you I am no good on holidays , I have more to worry about- hope others can offer better advice than me. I did try.
Take care

Yes Quirky
Another label to add to bp 2,adhd, ptsd and now ocd. For a profession that doesn’t like to label people, I have my share.
Feeling a little panic, making sure I have everything for going away for all 4 of us.
