Are your moods are like an elevator with no control buttons? Mine are.
Ground floor ... I feel normal, content, just quietly getting on with ordinary, everyday life, loving my family and friends. This is as it should be. And maybe there's nothing wrong with me after all. Live.
Going up, top floor. Oh look! There's a shiny thing! I want to sing! Let's go buy stuff! Let's have a big party and invite the world! What could possibly go wrong! Woooooo hoooooooo! Play.
Going up (a different day) top floor. What do you mean you don't agree with me! I'm right! Why don't you think like me? Keep up! How can you be so illogical? I'll f-ing shred you if you don't do what I want! Rage.
Going down, lower ground floor. Flat, listless, can't be bothered. Can still function but it's a drag. Cope
Going down, basement. I'm never getting out of bed again. I'm useless, worthless. Total idiot, how could I ever imagine I could do anything, nothing ever goes right because I'm wrong. I'm a burden to everyone. Hide.
Welcome to my bipolar world. It's always been my world, but it's only recently I've seen it for what it is. About 15 years ago I was diagnosed with clinical depression during one of my 'basement' times. I had a lot of lower ground floor times too, on and off, and I kept out of the basement (so I thought) with alcohol. Until that took me into the blackest ever basement with only one obvious way out. Having survived doing something very dangerous I realised I had to stop drinking or I really would die.
I never took much notice of the playful times or the anger, that was just me, I was fun sometimes, and sometimes I was a devastating bitch. Ha! Deal with it people!
Well, yes, but in time the elevator started going up and down too quickly and, as I became more aware and more knowledgeable about mental health I realised this wasn't good. Doctor. Diagnosis. Bipolar 2. Lithium.
So, I've started this thread in the hope that other bipolar folks will join me, to share experiences and strategies. In my 'beginners' understanding, we are different from other fellow travellers of the back dog. While we experience depression as many others on this site do, the hypomanic or manic ups and, for some the rapid cycling that can happen, are experiences unto themselves.
I want to learn more, and I want to share with others. I hope my fellow elevators will join me here.
BTW, it's a ground floor day in my head today! Yay!
Love
Kaz

I am just wondering if people find it hard to exercise when low.
Or does exercising give them energy whendown.
I find it hard to motivate myself when I lack energy but then I don't get energy when I don't exercise.
Quirky-Quickly hides all Lycra.

Lycra stretches Thankfully. Talking about my situation not yours lol. Excercise gives me energy a buzz once done for a few hours and then rested.
Been so so busy in the garden so excercise has suffered.Still overeating since Xmas. Need to get disciplined. Some hot days ahead.
Airies has Lycra lots of it but it doesn't fit:(

Hello everyone,
Nothing personal about Lycra but it is unforgiving over my sagging body!!!
I know we talk about change but when your life ha change for a while with no usual routine how would you cope?Do you start by trying to structure a new routine?
Quirky
I like to hear how everyone is going especially if things are not going well, even a word or two or if things are going well or if you seek advice. Everyone is welcome.

Lycra - HEHHE. I love my Lorna Janes. So comfy. Airies - given your relationship with exercise and food is not dissimilar to mine, I am sure the lycra will fit again soon.
I am cranky pants at the moment. Maybe a little PMS. Psych said I have exhaustion/fatigue and compassion fatigue. She is right.
So I am just concentrating on me, trying to do my job which is hard while exhausted, exercising more vigorously when I can wear a sports bra again - new back tattoo makes that awkward. So I am just walking and doing low impact stuff.
HEHEH LYCRA. It is funny stuff 😄

Hi, Hopefully is going on as well as things can be, on the this roller coaster.
I know I haven’t been around lately as I have been in a very dark place. Why does that happen when your GP and Psychiatrist are on leave at the same time. I’m really not that excited about going to Hawaii next month. I have more TMS next week so hopefully that will turn things around.

Hello everyone
Issi, I am glad you posted but nit pleased you have been in a dark place. I have noticed a relationship between my health deteriorating and my dr going away.,
I hope the TMS helps. If you feel better will you feel better about Hawaii or do you worry about travelling. It sounds like it would a nice break for you.
Velvet, you make me smile. Did you get some leave organised from work ? I like that you have a plan and it works.
PS Lycra never fits it knows all one's lumps and bumps and makes them bigger!!
Quirky ,

Hi
Quirky no I’m good with travel, and we’ve been planning this for 18 months as I turn 50 next month.
Unless it’s shapewear I never wear Lycra, don’t want to scare the kids.

congratulations on turning 50. I had the big 60 earlier this year.
Are you ok once you are at your destination but find the travel part difficult?
I said Lycra scares me too.
