How can we improve the Forums?

This discussion is a space for all members to share suggestions and ideas to improve the Forums. This can be anything. Navigation, notifications, topics and themes, moderation, community rules, or something else!

 

We'd love to hear about what you think we can do better. We are really grateful to everyone who has contributed their ideas already, and we're always keen to hear more.

Your email is only displayed in "Private stats", so it's not visible to other users. All information held by Beyond Blue is subject to our Privacy Policy.  Personal information contained in your profile, such as your date of birth, postcode and email address, are not visible to the public.

That's exactly right. All information held by Beyond Blue is subject to our Privacy Policy.  Personal information contained in your profile, such as your date of birth, postcode and email address, are not visible to the public.  However your chosen display name, avatar / profile image, and posts are visible to anyone browsing the Beyond Blue website, regardless of whether or not they are a member.  By posting to the Beyond Blue Forums, you grant us a non-exclusive right to reproduce and use any material you post.  We sometimes use material from the Forums as part of presentations or research projects.

You can improve the forums by bringing back the old layout/ setup. I've been a member for 5 1/2 years and this change is depressing. None of my followers have written to me on my thread because they wouldn't even know that I've posted. You are going to lose lots of people with these new forums. Bring back the old.

Hi Geoff

I appreciate what you’re saying about people not looking in another person’s Profile, but my concern is that people will be looking.

Collecting and displaying all of someone’s discussions in one place makes it very easy for another person to quickly glean little bits of information shared in individual posts over a lengthy period of time—which comprises anonymity.

I am really uncomfortable with this, and I don’t want a public Profile and I don’t remember consenting to this type of display of my information. Perhaps this consent was in the fine print somewhere along the line. Can’t remember.

i agree with you monkey. so many old threads that aren't being seen anymore, whereas they were on the old forums, even if they weren't active. i like the notifications thing although there was a glitch with mine, saying i had a notification from this thread, but i didn't, as it was days old.  & i like the idea of following & unfollowing a thread, but that's about all.

does anyone else think it's also slower to approve posts? i understand the new layout, staff etc. but maybe it's just me.

i do agree with you monkey, i think lots of people will leave the forums because they're too confusing for people. perhaps new people also.

I simply never expected a Public Profile, which enables people to now easily read all of our discussions in one convenient location, as opposed to taking a lot of time and effort searching for information about a person. It made me feel physically ill. Is it just me? 

I could be wrong, but from the posts I’ve read most people disclose little bits of information in individual posts over time—perhaps, without thinking about the big picture. I know I didn’t, and I now have some regrets about posts—which is so sad because every conversation had purpose and meaning cloaked in goodwill. But when you put it all together in one place …

I know I am responsible for what I post. I know I have been warned about disclosing personal information. But I honestly didn’t anticipate this type of change to the level of accessibility of my information.

YesSummer I had not though of all our post in one place, but I thought that  was for individuals.

I did not know others can access it. Like you when I try to help othersI May reveal information  I feel is helpful . 
I am confused as from what Sophie said our profiles are private. I would have no idea how check other profiles . 

I feel there are teething problems that will heal in time.
